How many miles?

I've attached a few more pics. The caribou hunt at Cold Bay, AK., shows the wind...east to west then west to east , the bogs..pretty hard to walk thru with the snow. A couple more Kodiak Is. pics...finally saw this bear on 4th day, never got a decent shot, but on the 6th day I shot him or his brother about 1/2 mile from where the pic was taken. Lastly, the captain returning to his boat after dropping me off at Kuzhuyak Bay for my hunt. I would not see him until nine days later.

I guess you could say this thread is worth the read, maybe.

When I was on the right side of 40, being away from road ~3 miles was routine enough. I hunted solo most of the time, on foot.

By the time I got on the wrong side of 60, I had horses. So, going in 5 miles one way was pretty typical. During that decade, all three of the elk kills I was involved with, involved horses packing the meat ~4 miles.

I'm still at it, for now @72. The bull I killed this fall involved a ride a bit less than 3 miles. There was a road ~1/2 mile away from where I killed the bull. That was an easy down hill walk to the road.

I backpacked into the Bob once for the early rifle and it was really hot, so purposely left the elk game bags at home. Figured I could pack out a mule deer if a nice one was spotted. Opening morning a nice bull stood broadside at 20 yards, about 8 miles from the trailhead.

Damn, I really wanted to shoot that bastard!
