How many miles?

I'm not sure that's quite all you're suggesting, or if so, it's been with the nuance of a jackhammer. However, this is largely true, or at least worth a hard look for those with the primary goal of finding "some elk".

There are lots of other things that make elk hunting fun for some of us though, namely not spending a lot of time in thick hell-holes that may or may not be small areas near roads. The very nature of being up and away from roads, in big glorious country is usually a higher priority unless short on meat. Basically high country mule deer hunting for elk, which is the far superior way to enjoy the outdoors, though rarely the most efficient.

Can someone please go shoot a mountain lion or late season cow elk and write an epic story about it so threads like this can be forgotten?

I have always thought that the main purpose of hunting is to kill something for meat and the great outdoors is a bonus. Yes, my primary goal is to find elk. If I can get an elk in a hell-hole, then that's where I'm going regardless of it's location. If your primary goal is to enjoy the glorious high country, perhaps you should consider joining the Sierra Club and hike the trails holding hands.

So everyone is doing it wrong and you're doing it right and you want everyone to change and do it your way? You must like it crowded or are trying to empty out the back country so you have more bulls for yourself.

So have you ever been to Norris road?
I'm not saying anyone is doing it wrong nor am I saying I'm doing it right. And I'm not suggesting that anyone change and do it my way. I don't like it crowded anymore than the next guy. I hunt cow elk, I'm not too worried about the bulls.

I think it's possible that the way you are arranging your words makes it sound that way.

Most people walk too much.
Sounds like you're wasting valuable glassing time and energy by walking way too much.
Don't you think you may betx wasting valuable time walking instead of actual hunting or glassing? Perhaps you need to find new places to hunt that have elk closer to where you park.
You need to get out of your tent and do a little hunting!!

What if he is actually khunter’s alter ego and now he can tell us how we are doing it wrong without hesitation. Would explain why there a no pics, we would all recognize him and the animals he has killed. Made up a good back story to throw us off his trail!

Max distance was just under 20 miles in a day hunting from the truck back to the truck.
Average 3-10 miles when I'm in the backcountry with my llamas.
That being said I got a cow with my stickbow this year 3/4 mile from the truck🤷
