Hero Pic Controversy

I'm lacking in the dangerous game end. trying to talk the wife into a used 470 Nitro & a new left-handed MRC in 9.3x62.

So far, no luck. :)

I agree with most of the posts. This could be a good/great thing for the sport if it is handled correctly. She is welcome to hunt whitetails with me anytime! I just think the world is full of "bleeding hearts" that don't understand all of the benefits of hunting.

also, Ben. . .scaring me a little! LOL

I believe I heard the issue was over her shooting it in a pen (enclosure) at a game farm. Many people choose to shoot critters in pens every year in lots of places and I'm not sure why she got singled out.

I'm not calling it anything.

All documentation were in place for this hunt eg permits etc as required by Nature Conservation. The lion was not drugged or enclosed in a camp. It was free roaming on more than 2000 hectares. Melissa is a professional hunter and in no way is she involved in dubious practices.

We are not apologising for facilitating the hunt. As for all the negative commentary towards us, please consider how much you have contributed to conservation in the past 5 years. If you are not a game farmer and struggling with dying starving animals, poaching and no fences in place to protect your animals and crop, please refrain from making negative degoratory comments. It is so easy to judge if you are staying in cities and towns, buying your meat at ‘woolies’ and going to game reserves maybe once a year.

It is a fact, that due to the hunting industry and money generated out of this industry, there are more animals in South Africa than 100 years ago.

Any journalists are welcome to contact us to clarify facts.

For what my .2 cents is worth, as for me a can, pen, or high fence operation ( call it what you will) is exactly that and is not for me. I dont care if it a 100,000 hectacres im not hunting there but thats me. If your legal and your proud of what you accomplished Im happy for you and would never look down or critize you. Ill give you all the atta boys, congrats and back slaps someone can and wish you luck on your next hunt. I just wont be joining you......

Melissa has been around for a while and is a good hunter. I am not sure why they picked her to go after and it ironic this South African group calls themselves conservationist.

There is a concerted effort in South Africa to stop sport hunting which would devastate their economy further but these governments cut off their nose to spite their faces daily.

This is getting big' people are texting me this story now . I don't get what the controversy is?

So, South Africa has more opportunity to hunt, gets millions of dollars towards conservation but... if a hot lady shoots a lion the outrage is apparently intensified a hundred-fold? So, everybody hunt somewhere else and they can figure out how to pay for their on form of "conservation"? works for me!
All i Have to say is that is a wonderfully tasteful picture that gives much more respect to the animal(which it deserves) than most pictures you see posted on facebook. Melissa, the heck with South Africa come hunt lions in MT instead.

I think most non hunters are of the belief that hunting in Africa is for free roaming animals like in the USA. With this story they're learning that may not be the case. Even though she was hunting free range animals it's easy to target her being a public figure I suppose.

This is exactly my thoughts too!! Its just not for me, but, to each their own.

Still not sure what the outrage is, I do know I enjoyed those U tube videos enough that I'm going to refrain from making comments about what those pigtails do to me;)
