HB145 - Increase NR license fees

I propose ALL states substantially raise NR license and fee costs. Why not make it even across the board? Besides, those pesky NR's have no say in what the states do about costs. Rich people will still come. Money talks! Gouge the folks that want to take OUR wildlife. If we raise prices enough maybe those outrageous resident costs can go away! God knows how much residents will suffer if THEY have to pay an extra $5 for anything. That simply wouldn't be FAIR! You know, times are tough and all. That $5 could mean the difference between choosing an elk tag for the year or a coffee one morning before work! A horrible choice for anyone to make. Screw those NRs, we want coffee.

Said in jest but probably not far from the truth.

Of course you won’t your not a NR , where does it end ? I’ll tell you where/when , when the tags stop selling out and they won’t . I looked at my cc statement from my bg combo app last year and it was over $1300 and that was with no pp I went into the random 0 pp draw . So with this fee increase and a pp now we are talking $1500 … it’s gonna make me look elsewhere / maybe thats what you/Montana residents want. Then where you think they’ll make the increases ? I know this isn’t your idea antler I just curious where it ends
Charging the the hell out of the dirty rotten NR hunters hasn’t slowed the flow of NR tags and never will. Like many people have pointed out, there’s no incentive to get rid of the most profitable tags. If anything, they’ll probably continue to provide more “opportunity “ for the NR and keep that money rolling in. Again, why mess around with the pesky R when they aren’t the money makers.

The bulls for billionaires theory is real. And as @TheJason pointed out, Eventually, those paying the bill will gain the upper hand in defining wildlife management in MT. Let that sink in.

IMO we’ve already crossed the threshold into a situation where the R truly isn’t much of a priority vs. the money folks (NR, NR landowners, outfitters, etc)

I agree with you it sucks ridiculous that we NR keep having to pay more but it’s even worse that the R are getting the shaft from their own state. When guys like you and I are priced out no one will notice.

I was pretty young but during the housing crash wasn't montana or idaho big game tags at an all time low sales? Or something to that effect?
I think Idaho was. I fondly remember that period. Those were the good old days

Yeah I think so. I went to Idaho right around that time (2009-2010 maybe?), it was pretty much a guaranteed draw. It’s around 5% now.

I would love to do that hunt again though, absolutely beautiful area.

It ends when people like you quite showing up in November.

I'd gladly pay an extra $100+ for my elk and deer tags if it meant a decrease in non-resident hunters!

Don’t forget SB 143 from 2021. This would have provided a relief valve from nonresident pressure, Lamb and company rallied the troops to beat it down. Pretty hard as a resident to take a stance, I certainly took the wrong one on that bill. I don’t care if this bill passes it won’t change a thing.

What would that bill have done?

When the wildlife agency and the legislature don’t GAF I don’t think you should expect normal people to be that sympathetic.
Not looking for that . I was just assuming when it stops but it was a rhetorical question…
