Has anyone done this to themselves?
I did the right leg back in May, which healed quickly, but this time I think I have really done some damage.
Its been 10 days now and still pretty stiff and painful, walking isn't a problem, but I guess I need to leave off the running for a few weeks.
I'm just grateful it wasn't this time last year as I would never have got my Elk!
Any advice?
Cheers
Richard

It's hard to really know someone on a forum like this but dang, we're about 4 inches away from knowing way to much about you! Ha

If it was just a pull I'd say walk as normal as possible and try to keep it moving. I don't like the bruising though. Was there anything particular that happened. Or was it just gradual pain that built up?

That is why I made sure I cropped it and gave a warning:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Sprint sessions at the running club, being too competitive, and not accepting that I'm not in my teens anymore!

Its really curtailed my shooting activities!

Easy transition, simple rehab. a remedy of taking it easy now will extend the future use of your leg. I bet that shoots pain when you move in a manner it doesn't agree. Ouch. Use your wonderful medical for a rehab plan and stick to it.

All the best to your recovery.

i tore mine 25 yrs ago trying to run out a ground ball blew it as a crossed first base, i knew immediately i was done for the weekend. i was mowing my lawn the next day very gingerly. my neighbor came over and asked why my leg was black. i had no idea , went into house and looked in a mirror and i was black from top of my butt to half way down my calf. took a couple months before i was back running

Last Sept hunting elk, my heel slipped on a rock while I was standing on a steep slope glassing. No fall, just lost balance, jerked to stay upright, TWAAAAANG!. So glad I had trekking poles w me. "What a drag it is getting old," Mick Jagger. This pic is from a week after the injury, it stayed colorful for a month and was uncomfortable almost the whole time.

Hope it gets better soon, buddy! I know your fitness is important to you. Going to bother you probably to take it easy but you really need to do just that. Maybe get the Mrs. to rub it for you! Good luck.

The challenge of staying physically fit while in your 40's, 50's, and 60's is finding the time, and then knowing how hard of a workout your body can take before something breaks down. Our minds always seem to be younger then our bodies. Sorry about the Hammy, Richard. Hoping for a quick recovery so you can get after those Reds.

I don't have pictures, but I've had the same injury with the same bruising. I also dislocated my left shoulder in that incident. It was not a good day. That was 4 years ago, or so. I've recovered but my shoulder still pops painfully and the flexibility to my hammy has never fully returned.

Thanks for the information and advice chaps.
Dave, not a huge amount of sympathy from the wife, she had advised me prior to going out that evening that I shouldn't do 'sessions' at the club, but to go on the gentle 5 mile run, I should have listened to her!
Cheers

Last year my wife rolled her ankle early into our trip ( 1st morning) while backpacking in Maui. We spent 2 weeks taking it easy.

Ouch! Tore my hamstring and gastrocnemius behind my knee last summer in the backcountry working. That was extremely not fun. The only therapy was rest, stretching, and easing back into workouts. After a couple of weeks, I started slow on the elliptical and if I didn’t overdo it, it actually made it feel better to get moving again. But I can still feel some pain when I do a deep bend on that knee...not sure why.
Hope you mend quickly!

I blew my hamstring out 3 years ago when I was racing the dog while out on a jog. Hasnt quite been the same since, do lots of stretching once you're healed up!
