GUNWERKS

What is your concern over what others spend their money on? Most of those folks are just like you, they never lived it but they "heard" about it. $600 hasn't gone a long way in decades...
Well aren’t you a merry ray of sunshine.

I’d take @mtmuley and his $600 rifle in a head to head elk killing match anyday.

Will a $10k truck get you from a to b? IT's not 1989 anymore. Hell yes a $150k truck is better.
Not arguing that the truck isn’t better in a lot of ways. But, they both get you from a to b. Just like my $600 rifle will kill an elk just the same as my $13,000 Gunwerks. Personal preference.

If you have the money to spend, then yes it's worth it. Can you get factory and or semi-custom rifles to do the same thing? Yes, and for a whole lot less.

Gunwerks has 2 value propositions to me:
#1 - they have had the best sporter stock designs on the market for some time. Others are finally catching up.
#2 - they sell the "Package" to people who think you can buy competency. Where this falls short is that people often buy the package because they dont understand ballistics or want to put time into learning. Thus, they are also not likely to understand how conditions, round count, etc impact velocity and how that impacts their ballistics. They dont understand that they aren't likely to get lots of ammo that performs the same as the first one that the gun was set up with. To me, this value is largely for suckers. You can buy a number of ballistic range finders (revic models included) that spit out corrections just the same.

Otherwise, just another run of the mill m700 platform custom that to me does little else to differentiate from others.

Buy what you want - a base GW Magnus without optic or load package is $7200. Expensive, but several other smiths are nearing this cost for a custom rifle as well.

My brother worked for GW for 3 years, so I took full advantage and got a rifle for a great price. Shoots pretty much anything I feed it very well. I see the value in it and others don’t, and that doesn’t bother me at all.

What Cartridge?

I have a buddy who had a close friend there and thought he could get me a deal on one. I wanted a 7 SAUM clymer, deal wasn't much of a deal or I likely would have one. I built one on a tikka instead and the gunsmith/options chosen were a mistake. Woulda been more happy with the clymer i'm sure.

I shoot the shotgun sports with a mid-range Beretta. Would I shoot a fancy, engraved K80 if I had the discretionary coin to drop on one. . . . of course I would. That said, my old Beretta breaks birds just fine. Now, if the guy steering it just knew what he was doing. . . . . .

Is a gunwerks worth the $13,000 or can you do just as good with something else.
Well, that kind of depends on your idea of "worth" doesn't it? I build rifles for my customers that I would put up there with the best of them, but I could not justify charging a customer $13k for a bolt rifle for hunting and still sleep at night (unless it had a museum quality hand made walnut stock and bluing job)...I know what the material costs are.
