You guys in Montana that had the grasshopper horde last year, did they come back? We have them this year like I've never seen before. Not so bad on the irrigated ground but anything dry is covered with them. There was a good hatch on the quail and the chicks are feasting on them.

Not Montana. Treasure valley. I wish we had a quail hatch like the grasshoppers, everywhere I walk they’re flushing in front of me.

If any chicks survived the torrential downpours during nesting they should be doing well. All I've seen out on the reservoir are adults.

I'm right there with you. First thing I thought of was fishing. Bedded bluegill, high mountain lakes with brookies and rainbows in creeks. Great memories with Dad.

I am seeing a very few hoppers this summer, compared to last. There are some but not many in my neck of the woods of south central MT.

Hoppers just showing up. Didn’t have any 10 days ago but the dry land pasture are full of little hoppers now.

They don't seem to be AS bad not many big ones yet but plenty an inch or so. The Coyote poop is FULL of hopper leg remnants.
Wait till the wheat starts to get cut then we will see them all over I bet.

Um… fyi I saw probably 20 coveys with 20+ chicks last weekend they did dang well, fairly small yet though!

NE Montana is just as bad as last year in many places. NW ND as well. But there appears to be a lot of parasitic fungus going around so perhaps there’s hope next year won’t be as bad?

The quail around our place are straight up feasting on the regular. All the chicks are still pretty little, but plenty of them around.

They really came on the last month in eastern Montana. A lot more for them to eat this year.
