Grand Mesa lakes?

Anyone spent anytime fishing the lakes on the Grand Mesa up in CO? Some friends are wanting to plan a fishing trip next year and we're between the Pecos Wilderness and Grand Mesa. They don't have any backpacking gear, so I'm leaning a little more towards the Mesa just for ease of getting around and less gear for them to have to buy.

Rent a cabin on Grand Mesa. A ton of rentals available

Don't really want to rent a cabin. We'd rather camp wherever we go.

I lived in GJ for a while and fished the Mesa numerous times. There are a lot of options. There are plenty of easy hikes that can get you into good fishing. One of my favorites was an 8 mile roundtrip hike to a lake where we caught some nice cutties. I've never been to the pecos though so I can't really make a comparison.
