Big Fin's talk about having to participate to keep the North American Model alive hit a chord with me. I've hunted in 7 different decades but in the last 20 years have stuck pretty close to home with the exception of Wyo antelope. This year I put in for a Wyo elk tag and drew. I looked forward to this hunt all year and really liked doing the research. I made the trip over a few days early and hunted antelope. I made it to my elk area 2 days before the opener to get camp set up and do a little scouting. Opening day I got into elk pretty close to camp and just couldn't pass up this young cow. I had her all packed out the same day in 3 loads. I had my heart set on a bull but I'm not disappointed at all. For my first time being in that country I felt lucky to be going home with an elk. Got her all cut and wrapped and ground 40lbs of burger this morning. Can't wait to go back. Thanks to Buzz for sharing his knowledge and Big Fin for re-lighting my fire.
