I'm traveling to Florida again to hunt gobblers in less than two weeks. I cannot wait, I will only be able to stay for four days but it still beats work right ? It will bring back great memories to sit in the pines where me and my grandpa used to before he passed. If I'm lucky maybe the birds will be cooperative for me, but just being in the turkey woods where my grand father introduced me to hunting will make the trip.

I'll be sure and posts some pictures while I'm there.

I am working on a slam, although all I'm missing is an Eastern. I killed an Osceola when I was 12 or 13 but didn't even get a fan mount, so I guess I'm not counting it! :D Brings up a good question, if I got a full body mount done in Florida , how would I get it to Montana? Can they be shipped? Is it a possibility to freeze it and mail it to Montana on ice and have it mounted here?

have it boxed up by the taxidermist, and have it mailed. or, dry ice and an overnight from ups.

Freeze it before You leave Florida, wrap it up in a plastic bag, Carry it in the plane or put it in a box. It will still be frozen by time You get home and take it to a local Taxi. Worked out great for Me a few years back.......BOB!

Have a great trip and I'm sure you'll have a partner with you! GOD bless & good huntin'

PS. Good luck on the Slam also!

Finally getting around to pictures. Wish I had taken more! Great, great times. I don't know what it is, but there is something to be said for sitting in a blind on a sunny afternoon and just enjoying the scenery. I didn't kill a bird, I passed a few jakes, but could never get the big toms to come close. I swear Osceolas are the spookiest and the most call shy Turks of North America, but that's just my opinion.

This was the Tom I wanted:

Turk tracks:

Something about the woods in the swamp puts my mind at ease, and makes me forget about work and any stress I have brewing. Highlight of the trip was calling in two jakes in the exact location and scenario as I was in when my grandpa missed a bird months before he passed. I couldn't help but reflect on the good times we had and all he taught me. I figured since he missed, I would let them walk as well. Yes, I am a turkey geek, but there is something about the turkey woods in the spring that I love. Good luck to all this spring.

Have to shout out an Amen to this. I grew up hunting and fishing the blackwater rivers and swamplands of SE North Carolina. For some it's the smell of the sagebrush and the spicy smell found in an aspen grove, smells still lodged in my memory from years gone by, but the smell of the pine, wild azalea and sweetbay and all the other smells and the sense of contentment I feel can't be found anywhere else I've been over the expanse of four continents.
You'd just have to experience it.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you MTMuley but if you are willing to share I would love to hear about how you arranged the hunt and who you went with, assuming it was a guided hunt. PM me if you prefer.

Reads and looks like an enjoyable adventure MT Muley, thanks for sharing the pics.

Actually moms side of the family is from Florida, and they own some property there still. So I fly in, stay with family, and hunt the property.

Got you and it is a great option but not one I have. :) Guess I need to do some more looking.
