Gobble gobble Spring Turkey 2025

Have taken the boy to KY for youth season past 3 years. With all the flooding and tornado warnings we audibled and decided to try NC. Not sure if NC woods (think lots of pine plantation) are exactly my cup of tea, but we were able to pull it off and he shot a nice public land bird Saturday morning. Good opportunity to experience a different state / habitat than we are used to.

All the pics especially of the kids has me fired up. Leaving with the boy today as soon as he's out of school.

Check him out early! There are LOTS of things more important than an afternoon in school!! Best of luck on your hunt.

The LE season here opens this weekend, but the GS doesn't open until 04/28. The waiting is painful as these "city" birds are putting on quite the show.

Opener is next week for me. I organized my vest and sprayed it, clothing, and boots down with permethrin. Hopefully get some scouting in this weekend.

I was driving down a gravel road this afternoon and a hen jumped up out of the ditch, I looked to my left and a Tom was 20 yards off the road his head was blue, his carruncles were bright red and his neck extended out, beak open and his snood was flying left and right like a big ball of snot stuck on your mustache. Even though I couldn’t hear it I could feel the gobble from inside the truck.

Seen about a dozen birds out in the fields this morning with all this rain. A couple toms strutting together in a group of 6 birds, guess they have one last day before tomorrow's open day here in NC. Thinking so wet everywhere they will hit the fields again tomorrow. I prefer hunting the woods but we will see.

Last youth season for my youngest, I think it was the best!! My oldest came along and videoed. What a morning gobbling all over had two come in perfect and strut around for 5 minutes before he shot one. Now I gotta wait 8 days for the regular season opener.

Called in this public land Jake (USFS ground 15mi as the crow flies from home, although it's a 40min drive and 2.8mi hike to get to this general spot) for my Son in Law yesterday about 8:30. Was in a group of another couple Jakes and 2 longbeards. Guy a couple ridges over missed one of the longbeards about 15 minutes before I called this one into our lap. Decoy has a couple holes in it, this guy was ON that decoy.

He still has a Draw tag that opens in May and my OTC tag is intact for a trip down south in a couple of weeks.

Old fishing buddy of mine who is retired in Southern MS makes pot calls (mostly out of wood from a bunch of trees he lost at his place during Karina), so I always take a picture for him with the call, also :)
