Gallatin Canyon Wall Tent Homicide

My neighbor stopped by and asked if I heard about this. Man found dead a couple miles up a forest service road in his wall tent. Not what I wanted to hear as I’m packing to head out tomorrow. Sad deal.

If there were ever an argument to pack all the time, this would be it.

I have a cousin in his mid 20s that was camping in National Forest in Colorado this past summer in a fairly remote area. They were sitting by a camp fire around 10pm and had 3 guys walk into their camp with pistols. Took their wallets, phones, truck keys, guns and coolers. They had seen a truck drive back and forth a few times and they heard the truck park and doors slam about 300-400 yards down the road and didn't think anything of it. Figured they were setting up camp for the night and looking for a good spot. 15 min later the 3 guys walked into camp wearing masks and ordered them on the ground. They had guns also but were in the consoles of their trucks and rifles under the back seat. They left with everything and they could hear the truck start up and drive off.

They ended up hiking 3 miles to a cabin where they were lucky to find someone. They called sheriff and to this day nothing has been found or any leads or progress on investigation. Most definitely makes me think differently of camping and to be more vigilant to what is going on around you. They were busy talking and noticed the truck driving back and forth, but they were not paying close enough attention to provide a make or model.

OK , just my two cents . This sounds more like your cousin crossed the wrong people . Bikers/gangs have been known to do this to people that crossed them . take all their stuff and tell them to never tell anybody . Happened to my friend , with the threat of harming family members if he told anyone . Made him strip his own car , took his cowboy boots and jeans . He called me to come get him and never told me the truth . I found out from his GF later . I know of another time it happened too . The victims have to come up with some story to tell their family .
This story , remote location , couldn't give the make of truck , just don't add up . The things that go on and nobody's knows about ....
