Averaged out or trip to Colorado in the past and we usally went through about $600 to $700 in fuel. This year looks like if fuel stays around $4.00 a gallon are fuel bill will be around $1,000. Boy hunting isn't getting any cheaper. How bad is your fuel bill on your hunting trip going to be this year?

Pulling a travel trailer it adds up in a hurry!
I usually average around 10 mpg pulling our travel trailer and it is a 2,500 round trip to where I hunt in Wyoming.
250 gallons X $3.50 (gas truck) = $875. Throw in another couple hundred miles at least driving to pick up ice, etc. and it will be pushing that $1k mark.
Without the trailer I could probably average closer to 18 mpg and that would almost cut the gas bill in half. $485 instead of $875, but the wife and kid go with me and there is no way they would stay in a tent.

I hate to even THINK about it...
It will make me think twice about going out to say, for instance, Wyoming for just a pronghorn hunt. I will likely try to coordinate a couple of hunts into one, even if it means taking extra time off work to do so. But, as we are at the mercy of the draws it mostly comes down to taking what we can get.
I usually don't think that much about it, but at the current and forecasted fuel prices, I can't help but consider it into the cost of hunting.

It is a buzz kill to think about, we now have 6 guys in our group and will have to take 2 vehicles to get out there unless I can talk them into us all getting into my superduty, which is possible but may be alittle tight but 6 @ $166 a person is better than 4 @ $250 per guy. and the cost of the other vehicle.

I'm glad I left my crappy state of birth when I grew up, and moved to a place where wages suck, but everything I wanted was (or close by) where I lived. But I'm tellin all of ya, don't move here. I usually spring turkey hunt in Eastern Wyoming and South Dakota. I was really looking forward to this years spring get-a-way.... Until I figured fuel coasts. Usually 1200 miles round trip + miles to visit friends and hunts spots = 1600 miles (minimum). F-150 gets 17 MPG so that comes to about $390.00. This is not including hotel and food. That turkey gets awful expensive so I am looking for a huntin' buddy to split costs. No turkey is worth $700.00.... I don't care how much fun it is.

I hope to draw Montana too,and its probably 1800 miles for me one way.Not going to cry about it though.Its worth every penny to be out there for a few weeks.I'm also planning on 2 trips so about 7500 miles total.
I personally believe Obama likes being president too much to allow it to go into the fall.His opponents will be hitting the tv screens this fall.Can't have the worst economy and worst gas prices and expect to be re-elected.I'll start to worry in August if theres no change

No more of this one day adventure then I'll go home to keep the wife happy stuff. It is goint to be go for 3 or 4 days striaght to save gas and come home to a mad wife.

I don't think about it. It makes my wife mad, but then I point out that we would always stay home if we knew what we spend on gas going on trips to visit family. This past year she didn't put me on a budget per say, instead what ever we had left over from bills, savings, and a little allowance for her I got what was left over for hunting. Some paychecks I had tons for gas then others I had no more then $5.00. I dug into savings once but when she found out I was sleeping with the dogs. I don't know what I spent last year in gas but I did put on close to 15,000 miles in 4 months. (granted that wasn't just hunting but most of it was)

This year will be painful. Depending on where I draw I could be traveling 104 miles each way on the far side or 24 miles on the close. You might think I'm joking or kidding, but you have to take into account how many times I'll go visit wherever I draw to learn the area
