Friday Tunes - Prince

I love this performance from him, in addition to all his other accolades he did covers incredibly well and by all accounts enjoyed performing them (see SuperBowl XLI). He seemed incredibly unselfish when it came to music. Here he jumps in with an all star cast @ 3:30 and slays a solo to While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

I've never been a huge Prince fan myself but, being from Minnesota, we have three things we are generally proud of (4 if you count Randy Newberg :p) We lost 1/3 of those yesterday.

1. The ability to survive our winters
2. Prince
3. Bob Dylan

I'll admit I switched my office radio to a station I knew would play some Prince today.

Incredible piece of music.
We think alike while most Prince fans think of his original music as a casual fan when i hear his name I think of him covering the Foo on the biggest stage in the only halftime show I'll ever replay.

For me Prince was an acquired taste. Initially disliked him but that deffinitely changed over time. He was truly an artist and was probably under appreciated.

I was at the Mumford and Sons concert last night in st. Paul and they more or less dedicated the whole night to him. Mumford & Sons singing Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U was pretty awesome. Very positive vibe all night

That performance was unreal. He could play. I'd have really liked to have heard him, w/o the schtick, play the blues. His voice....not so much.

I sat front row at a Prince concert once and I have to say it was pretty awesome.

I always thought that he was a bit weird, but many musicians are. The thing that I liked about him, was that he was never in big controversy and seemed to fly under the radar for most of his career. He was a very talented musician.

I agree.
While in HS in the early 80's, I was one of those who would listen to Slayer, Megadeth, etc, but would secretly listen to my hidden Purple Rain cassette! Wouldn't say that I was a huge fan by any means, but the man was very talented. Weird but talented. I don't think I've ever changed radio stations when any of his songs happen to start playing. Just rolled up the windows tight hoping the truck beside me at the light didn't hear what I was shamefully listening to.:(

Back in the day....When the movie 'Purple Rain' first hit the screen, I took my soon to be bride (later to be EX) to Tulare, CA's only run down cinema. Hot Date, In Love. Promptly to barf her chicken burrito in the floorboard of my new car shortly after the movie. Married her any way. The scene we both remember to this date and still will bring up on long occasion is this one.

May Prince RIP, but I detested his music. I enjoy OLD rock & roll. To say he was a bit weird is an understatement.
