The kits are a hoot to watch. I've observed quite a few litters over the yrs. The female being the primary caregiver & teacher of her kits. If she is killed & the kits are weaned(5 wks old). The male will take over her duties. I quit hunting them decades ago. Like a few others have remarked. I see their population in pockets, in coyote country. One spring I observed if I recall. 5 litters in a 7 mile radius. Open rolling cropland on the North central plains is my hunt terrain.
