Football General Talk

I would assume if Metcalf wanted out of Seattle it was partly due to wanting to work with a better QB than Geno. In fact if Seattle picks up Rogers or more likely...Darnold who they may be able to get a bit cheaper than Smith was going to cost them...I would expect Metcalf to be happier staying in Seattle. Darnold is an accurate gunslinger with as good an arm as almost anyone...

The Raiders might go the Vikings way...still draft a young QB...and use Geno as a bridge.
Sure doesn't look that way Metcalf to Pittsburgh---whose QB situation is terrible--unless they plan to pick up Rodgers or Darnold now, but they backed up the truck to Metcalf so not sure what they can afford. Maybe Metcalf was OK being reunited with Russel Wilson but he's sure not the QB he was in his better Seattle Days anymore.

I think it's all talk with no substance, but lots of chatter about Rodgers pulling a Favre and coming to the Vikings.

The rosters on March 13th are not, in fact, identical to what it will be September 12th. Any chance of actually waiting until even mid summer before judging teams rosters?

As of this a.m. and after Slay, Metcalf, Harrison, and Echols cap hits, they are just shy of $40 million in cap space and could be in mid 50's by releasing two guys that I'm 99 % sure they will be so money is and never was a problem and they could have signed any QB they wanted to in this FA class. This FA class overall sucked which everyone who follows remotely closely knew ahead of time. I don't get why so many fans are pissed their teams aren't throwing gobs of money at marginal players.

I would be shocked if they are not just planning on drafting a kid early and throwing him in there. My guess is if Rodgers would sign a ONE year deal in the 20-30 million range fully guaranteed (which he won't because he will want 50+) they would sign him and still draft a kid.

After watching Denver, Washington, Minnesota with JJ (Looked great prior to injury), and Atlanta why would you dumpster dive on these 40 year old QBs who are washed and cost an insane amount of money? Draft a kid and see how it goes. If he sucks, draft another one. You have to keep trying. That's all you can do.

It's not like the Steelers are not just a QB away from contending. Makes no sense to spend 50 million on a guy they don't view as a long term answer. The only reason they even had Wilson last year is because they got him for a bag of popcorn. Same with Fields. They gave up a 6th round pick for him. Extremely low risk and after watching him every day in practice and in games decided he was not worth 20+ million a year and committing to any more than 1 year.

Metcalf cares about his $$$. That's it. They all do. The QB and team isn't as important as they say in the media. My 6 yr old could be the QB and he will still be happy with his $30 million a year I can promise you that.

Unless Metcalf knew exactly who the Steelers QB was going to be before he signed with them yea they are in a terrible QB situation. Fields is gone (Good for Pittsburgh) and it looks like Wilson wants to shop around. He'd be a nice one year guy before a rookie they draft can be ready in a year, but their pick is 21 I believe. Ward and Sanders will be gone by then, and anyone else is a crapshoot, its a weak draft for QB's this year.

I do like what they are doing. Maybe they are planning to move up in the draft, that would be at the expense of filling other needs and giving up a lot of future picks (they don't have a 2nd rounder this year it appears) but they are decent to start with.

Terrible QB situation? Or unknown? I don't view unknown as a bad thing at all. Again, Metcalf is getting 30 million a year. How many teams with great QB situations even have the cap space to do that? Let's not act like there are a bunch of teams with great QB situations that can pay that right now. He is now getting paid 30 million a year and on a team that yes, gets blown out every year in the playoffs, but still make the playoffs more times than not even with QBs such as Duck Hodges and Mason Rudolph. He'll be the #1 and get plenty of targets.

How exactly do you know when Ward and Sanders will be drafted? It's all a crapshoot, and always has been. Also, can we at least let the kids get drafted and play some games before calling it a weak class? You and I and everyone else have no idea how good or bad it will be.

Not saying they will, but for example, to move from 21 to 10 wouldn't cost nearly as much as you think. They did it a few years ago for Devin Bush 🤮

Wilson is not coming back. They would be stupid to even entertain that. I would be shocked.

Due to losing the amount of FA's this year and the contracts they signed, they are set for 4 compensatory picks in 2026 in which they will get a 3rd (Dan Moore) and 4th (Justin Fields) and two more in later rounds. It's not too far fetched to use this years first and next years 3rd and 4th non compensatory picks to move up and draft someone they really like. Like I said, you have to keep trying until you hit.

Not sure we disagree all that much, depends on perspective and timing. Must be a fan of the team? Always liked Tomlin but he seems to be the most hated man in the state online.

The draft value charts suggest a mid 2nd rounder together with 21 might allow a move to ten, but I haven't seen many similar move ups in the first that haven't required more than the charts say.

I do think there's a chance Sanders could drop, and I could see him being an interesting development guy for Tomlins staff.

There's nothing wrong with building the team first then your stud QB coming in a year later either.

Yes, I am a fan. Unfortunately the majority of the fanbase has become extremely toxic, spoiled, and unrealistic. While Tomlin has plenty of blame to take in recent struggles there is also alot of others who have had their hand in the pile.

They have plenty of draft capitol and players they could package to move up 10-12 spots to someone they really like. I wouldn't expect them to move into top 5-7 as like you said that would require alot.

To me, I would rather draft Sanders, Dart, etc. and see what happens than pay one of these old washed up ego maniacs that cost insane money when at the end of the day still won't get you a super bowl or be the future to build with. If the rookie sucks, draft another one. Keep trying.

At least have a half decent roster built up with weapons for a rookie to come in and play with.

The only way Rodgers makes sense would be for a ONE year deal under 30 million and they still draft someone high. Even then I don't like that at all and think it would be a mistake and waste of time.

They signed Rudolph today and I like that as a veteran backup. Hopefully they just go draft a QB now.
