Football General Talk

Let's see how the Jones dice roll next year. I wouldn't write him off as quick as some are - There's a chance, right? ;)

During this hiring cycle, the Cowboys only interviewed Schottenheimer, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Seattle Seahawks assistant Leslie Frazier, and former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh before hiring Schottenheimer. The team also had a conversation with former Cowboys star and Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders, but Sanders reportedly never was a serious candidate for the position.

Schottenheimer does hold over a decade more of overall coaching experience than both Johnson and Glenn. While Johnson and Glenn have only served as a coordinator for one stint with the Lions, Schottenheimer has previously held the offensive coordinator position for four teams. This does not necessarily mean that Schottenheimer has more skill or expertise than either Johnson or Glenn, but at least signifies he is highly experienced as he takes on the lead role with the arguably the most prominent team in the NFL.

Here to take my churn at the butter.

I recall when the debate reeled around keeping tech out... i sided on external booth and sideline ref video review.

I like the way it is now.

I don't need tech stepping to the next projection of where the the ball would be based on the limited body shown positioning where the ball is no longer visible for ref visual tech cam view.

We know where the line is. We need to know where the ball is.

And it’s on the league to figure out a way to do it.

The NFL has the money. The NFL has the incentive, even if it won’t admit it. Smarter people than me (that bar is low) can figure out how to do it, if they want to.
Lord, please no.

There are sensors that can go into the football that can precisely track exactly where the ball is on the field. Combine that time data along with the video timestamp data and the nfl can very easily eliminate any question as to any play regarding where the ball was.

Why they won't adopt that is beyond me. It's been out for a few years now. I feel they just like the "talk" about the calls that are missed

How the heck does it ID if possession is maintained? How far do we want tech to go? Sensors in every player's gloves, continuously tested to ensure player's don't set some function to deactivate?

Remove refs completely with the digital board declaring penalties and drone ball exact placement?
Sensors on every body pad and points on helmets to ID impact, knee down, electronic yard lines that define exact location of the ball?
Electronic devices embedded into pigskin football? Slight movement electronically lights up the player's uniform if PI, holding, offsides, false start, etc?

Haha! ChatGPT broadcasters?

Meh, it's the NFL. They'll do what keeps fans in the seats, home or fields.

No, I'm not saying to go that far.

I'm saying if the football had the sensor, there are a lot of plays in which it is impossible for the refs to get right that could be corrected.

Goalline sneak and you can't see the ball to know if he got in with his forward momentum.

4th and 3 and he dives for the first down but no camera angle shows the ball and his knee at the same time.
