As of about 8pm last night, they will only sign or franchise tag him if they believe they can flip for more than the 3rd/4th rounder they will get as a compensatory if he walks as a free agent. Daniel Jones will be next year’s Darnold at $5mm — planning to have him play the first 2-3 games before giving way to JJ.

It would be more like them hiring Magic or Bulls hiring Jordan. Those likely wouldn’t work either.
He submarined his chance at anything more than a high level backup contract. He’ll get $8M-$12M a year as a backup, just like he did this year.
Also, if I’m Daniel Jones I’m asking for more than the $10M that Darnold got this year. Even though he’s on the scrap heap too, he’s got a little more of a resume than darnold did.

You guys are truly crazy. We are going to have to agree to disagree on the Vikings. You guys have been higher than kites all year on the Vikings and now they have 2 bad weeks and you are ready to scrap the roster. So…on to my next question, and you guys are going to really shit your pants in disgust that I even fathom this. Can KOC be blamed? You guys are quick to put blame on Darnold and coaches don’t matter, but FACT is KOC did not have his team ready to play against the lions or the Rams. His game plan sucked and he was out coached by Dan Campbell and Sean McVey.

I can’t disagree, but the NFL market is sometimes irrational, so we may be surprised. I was shocked at 3 yrs guaranteed for an old immobile .500 QB coming off a mid-season Achilles tear. I remain open to being surprised again.

I was never “high as a kite”. This is a 10-7 wildcard first round loss roster. I have said so consistently from the start. I would have not put one penny on this team in the playoffs - same as the team that lost to NYG. This is a re-build that has generated a lot of fun, but it is not even close to the destination.
As for KOC. He appears too pleased with his own game plan/system and is too reluctant to adapt to what his players are capable of and what the opponent is doing. He has to work on this or he will fail in the end. Similarly Flores needs to find one more “pitch” that works - too often in the last two years, by the 4th quarter and late in the season teams start to figure out the rhythm of his scheme. He needs a great “change up” for those moments.

Funny you mentioned this. I told my dad this last night and added on that I think he did it on purpose to see if Sam could run the offense the way he wants it ran, kind of like a test.

Testing a qb to see if they can run your game plan is why they play preseason games. Not in the first round of the playoffs.

My money if I had to place it today would be on Rodgers in MN for 1 year. It just makes so much sense from all angles except the drama that comes with it.

I never said scrap the roster and jettison half the team, I'm saying you need to keep building your roster and don't jump the shark buy into a pop up season. The front office made a very calculated decision last year to move on from kurt and bring in new QBs including drafting one in the top 10, which allowed them to build up a pretty good defense. I don't see them scrapping the plan they put into place and have already started to see materialize to try and capture a spark (not evening lighting) in a bottle.
And yes, KO has to take blame, and a lot of it. He's the HC. He didn't have the team ready to play in the playoffs. Now, he isn't in jeopardy of losing his job at all, but he needs to be held accountable and learn from this year if he wants to continue success and building the team. You can't just blame darnold, you cant just blame, KO, you can't just blame the interior OL. It's a team of 53 guys and a pile of coaches, but ultimately, the HC is responsible for the result on the field, and it did not end well this year.
I can't find a galaxy in which bringing in a 40 year old egotistical narcissist fixes this team. They have a top 10 draft pick QB who will be handed the reigns, and a different top 10 draft pick QB in Jones that is more than likely going to be the backup.
Rodgers can't move anymore, he brings unnecessary distractions everywhere he goes, and he's going to want $40M. Sounds like a Raiders move to me.

The two big differences between the Favre to vikes story and the Rogers to vikes speculation. (1) Favre was great fun and able to galvanize a locker room behind him — a number of players played their best year of their career with/for him — while Rogers is a toxic divider; (2) The vikes back in ‘09 team was fine with Brett being his own OC, KOC would not allow Rogers to play that game and no way Rogers runs KOC’s offense the way it is intended.

I don't know if we've exactly what KO's ideal dream offense looks like.
He was told by ownership to run it back with Zim's guys. Then he had to run it back with kurt again (which required a restructure and pushing money into the future), plus some of his and Kwesi's free agent and draft additions. Now a bridge year with darnold and more of their guys on the roster. Next year will be the first season where they get their hand-picked QB and are out from kurt's dead money.
I could see them prioritizing OL and DL in FA and spending big to be able to run the ball and stop the run a lot better. I know KO like's to pass the football, but I don't think his ideal offense throws the football 53.7% of the time like they did this year. 3.7% doesn't seem like a ton, but getting to 50/50 or leaning heavier towards the run may be the ideal offense for this team, we just haven't seen it yet.

Darnold doesn't make sense in MN for more than 1 to 2 years and one of the 7 teams that need a QB for next year will give him at least 25m for 2 to 3 years and that is the very low end. MN doesn't want him for even close to that.
The Vikings offense can't be judged by the last two weeks, that is unfair. End of regular season they were the 12th best offense overall and 6th in passing and 19 in rushing. The pieces and weapons are there for the team to be relevant next season as long as they have a competent QB. I don't see JJ stepping in and doing what Jayden Daniel's is doing this season in Washington. Daniel Jones I would agree is pretty equivalent to Darnold in terms of what may be possible but with that comes as well I think what might happen again at the end of the year when the games matter. Also, is Darnold or Jones the right guy ahead to teach and work with JJ? Obviously with the injury I'm sure he didn't get a lot of the same type of mentoring from them in that locker room.
