Football General Talk

I was just skimming a story on the bizarre rules that the NFL has for interviewing and hiring new coaches, especially Lions' and Vikings' coaches to become head coaches.

The rules are ridiculous to me but I'm not Pete Roselle or even Roger Goodell.

Of the three teams which have already fired their HCs so far (Bears, Jets, New Orleans), which, if any, would you be attracted to if you were in those assistant coach/coordinator shoes? Personally, I would plead with the Vikes or Lions respectively to let me stay. I would chain myself to the goal posts before I would let anyone drag me off to any of those three jobs. At gunpoint, I would probably pick the Bears, but it would have to be a Damn Big Gun.

On the field, the Bears would give you the best chance, but the interoffice politics (see K Warren and his stay in MN and at B10) takes the shine off (as does playing in the best conference in the league for the next few years). The other two are dumpster fires. And will just spit out their next hire in two years.

I assume a few other spots open up Monday that may look better.

A first time head coach going to one of those franchises is like a lot first pick quarterbacks going to one of those franchises. Their career is doomed before it even begins.

Eesh! Didn't expect Bengals to take the momentum over Steeler's D in the 1st. Still a long way to go though they've made the game interesting. It is Burrows so... Not something out of the ordinary though wow! As good as it could be for a start to upset the Steelers!

I am trying to remember what is at stake for each team. Cincinnati seems motivated for sure.

Pittsburg recovery... epic opportunity. Though Pickens almost playing as if he was paid NOT to catch balls. Humor though wow! He is not playing ball! Thank goodness Freiermuth is taking care of Steeler business.

Interesting game. Looks like the Stripes will win, but closer than I thought it would be after the first quarter.

I believe Joe Buck and Troy Aiken are going to be CoChairs of the Joe Burrow Deification Committee. Yeah, Burrows is really playing well, but good golly - he missed at least one wide open touchdown. He is not infallible.

Vikings buffer their sideline with $2 million spent on tickets for 1900 seats. Offer sent to fans for discounted seats. Lions file complaint though told not illegal.

Nice move Skol kingdom! This is going to be the game to watch!

I know it is early yet, but I just skimmed the scoreboards and there are a lot of flipped scores right now. Teams are winning that should be scoreless. Interesting day, so far.

Now, back to my trim carpentry.

I heard something from the main Wisconsin talking head this week that I haven’t heard up until now- some hairline cracks perhaps starting to form in the ice LaFleur is standing on.

A one-and-done playoffs is going to make for a very interesting offseason and 2025 for him.
