Football General Talk

So what are the odds the Dolphins take the number 7 spot in the AFC?

I didn't expect them to make it, haven't paid any attention to them, but I don't see the Broncos or Bengals winning.

Slim.

Kc will have their subs in, resting starters. With any sense at all. Broncos should be in.

I was telling some friends the other day that Vrabel would be perfect in Cincy for the exact reasons you just stated. Let Burrow help pick an OC that has a similar philosophy and let them cook up the offense, while Vrabel flips the defense.

The last true "hack" the NFL has that isn't IMO being utilized enough or maybe at all, is paying coaches/coordinators well. Everyone likes to talk about how you can't hire a defensive minded HC anymore because they'll lose any competent OC to a HC gig. I call BS. I think that forward thinking front offices will and should start to pay their coordinators and asst coaches enough to keep them in place and successful. There is no salary cap for coaches. As a Vikes fan, I'd love to see them offer Flores enough money to turn down a mediocre HC job. It won't work for every situation, but I think that if you have everyone on the same page and there is mutual respect and good working relationships it would work. Egos need to be set aside, for sure. Like I said, this is something that won't work for everyone, like the panthers, the jags, jets, etc., but for a solid stable organization, I think it would. Think Steelers, Chiefs, 9ers, Vikes, GB, DET.
I agree. I have no doubt if Flores wants to pass on HC jobs for the next 3 yrs, the Vikes will make it worth his while - the Wilfs seem to be always willing to write checks. But being top dog is hard to pass up for these guys - they are born competitors.

And that is why I'm all for college QB's pulling an "Eli" (well actually an Archie) and telling dumpster teams they won't play for them.
There is enough (legal) money in college football now to go back to for a year if needed.
I wouldn't let some 2-bit, mom-and-pop, pisspoor franchise that's failed multiple other young QB's fail me, or a child of mine. Darnold, Baker, and Goff are perfect examples of this. If they'd have gone to competent organizations initially, they'd more than likely not have the paths they've had.
Let the $#!t teams wallow in their own filth and let the franchise erode, or force them to change for the better.
Just to be clear - Goff went to LARams and had McVay and went to a Super Bowl with them. - but the others, yes.

When Goff was traded the consensus on him was that he was a decent QB but couldn’t carry a team to a championship. Even under McVay he had never thrown more than 32 TDs, which in that offense at that time was a lotta meat left on the bone. He was not living up to expectations with the Rams, even with a Super Bowl appearance.
Not to mention, when he was traded to DET he didn’t really start to play at this level until his second year there and lead a really bad team his first year. He didn’t have as low of a low as darnold or baker but he was considered to be slightly damaged goods.

But he did land in a good place - he just wasn't the right fit for McVay's pushing the ball down the field approach to passing game.

Watching the morning talking heads discussing Saquon going for the record. It is crazy to think that OJ ran for 2000+ in a 14 game season.

Not to be an old head, but that record really should be yards-per-game. Dickerson is complaining a bit that of Saquon does it, it should have an asterisk because he has one more game. Someone should remind Dickerson he had TWO more than OJ.

when Goff was traded "almost" everyone considered this a player dump. McVay got to git rid of him, and Lions got some picks and were going to cut him. Campbell said nope, he is our dude and we are riding with him. As a Packer fan, I loved it, Goff was 100% damaged goods at the time.

I don't love it so much anymore, but for all the dog crap Lions fans had shoved down their throats for years it they deserve a good team for awhile

This looks pretty solid ahead of week 18.

Only real outstanding piece is Vikings vs Lions for bye and home field.

Missing anything? There still hope for some other team to slide in/kick out a team in this bracket?

Actually, Broncos, Bengals, and Dolphins too, I suppose though Chiefs have their position regardless win/lose vs Broncos.
Though IF Mahomes plays (why chance it?) and Broncos tank, I suppose it could land Dolphins or Bengals, right?

As expected, Mahomes is sitting out. Wentz is in. I'd imagine it may even extend to limited snaps if not a complete sit out for Kelsey as well...

The position on the bracket for Chiefs will not change win or lose...

I'm actually wondering if the Broncos could beat the Chiefs even with the starters rested.

Can the Bengals beat the Steelers?

I imagine the Dolphins could beat the Jets without much trouble.

Really wanting to watch the Vikings / Lions

Donkeys could lose. Wentz and everyone else wants to make the case to get some $ and will be motivated to play. Im not sure if every starter will sit out or not - but this isnt the gimme some people think.

Right now denver is a 10.5 point favorite.

I am pretty sure the NFL re-seeds after the first round, so the #1 will get the lowest remaining team after wildcard weekend. So, for example, NFC #1 will play any one of #4, #5, #6 or #7 with the remaining two teams playing each other in the second round. As such, old-timey brackets don't work any more.

Also, TB & LAR may flip seeds and Falcons could displace TB. And GB & Wash may flip seeds. All we really know today is that Phili is #2.

I believe Payton, Nix, Sutton, etc al have been driving a new Bronco operation to the delight of the Waltons.
Wentz is certainly not new and held his moments though I can see why the odds favor Broncos.

Looking forward to the following main games:
#1 Lions vs Vikings. I think Lions take it - No Skol pagan witch-craft towards me!
#2 Broncos vs Chiefs. Broncos pull it off, IMO.

Outside that, seems more seeding or big shifts such as a Commanders loss opens another scene.
