Football General Talk

I agree that the subjective calls are more so the problem and I like the human element there. But we have seen first downs that should be a first not called a first down because call of field was short and it's "not clear enough". I would like to see football without those calls and just rely on pure tech to get it right if we are confident it can

Serious thought for potential discussion: Why does (cant) the NFL use technology to increase the accuracy of the play/calls.

For example. Can't the football have sensors built into it along with devices that recognize the sensor all over the field (line of gain, goal lines, sidelines) to instantly and accuracy determine first downs, tds, etc? In hockey they have been testing this in the pucks for a couple years now, I'm not aware of it in footballs yet.

Can't we use timing devices and video to accurately get snap times, clock stoppage, etc.

Just those two things alone I think would drastically clean up the game and associated "bad ref calls". I'm just thinking of ways to improve that side of the game because right now I would think that ref reputation has to be at an all time low
At some point we just have to let them play football.

BREAKING NEWS: The Steelers and the Packers are just good, always. Never count them out or bet against them.

Just in case you didn't know...helping you survive the NFL playoffs.

Already coming up with the copout... Jones makes his private phone call to the refs...

Hah! You chatting up with Tate??? :ROFLMAO:

Soccer has it for goal line judgment. Dunno what it would take to cover some 300+ yards of side/end lines.

I love the human element it's part of sports. Ya win some and ya lose some. Part of sports and I've been on both ends of bad calls while playing and being a ref.

Imagine how little we would have say or complain about on "the morning after"?

I think tennis is becoming very automated on line calls now. Not sure if it's better or worse for it.

How’s that annual Super Bowl bet on the Pack or Boys working out this century? ;)

Wilson actually developed a ball with sufficient sensors to do much of this, but messed with ball weight, ball balance and hard hits could knock sensors out of alignment and require frequent ball replacement. But as another reply on this page referenced - the bulk of the complaints are about discretionary things like holding, PI and early whistles.

Do you have any action on this yet? Are we going with the spread or straight up. I’ll take the pack either way.

Straight up. Boys vs Packs.

I have a double ($50) with one member who's post his intent in this thread... to LOSE. 😅
And a $25 with another and I'll leave it to him for comment or maintain our gent agreement w/in pm.

I have a fiscally (ir)responsible budget of $100 HT Scheels g/c $$$.

Another $25 is free to pass another Scheels g/c my way when you or another want to gift me one more g/c.

Packer be packing light w/o their huevos right off the field. 🤣

Its going to be my pleasure spending your gift card!

Done deal, @Gellar . $25 g/c gent gift. Straight up you email me a Scheels g/c when the Packers droop their heads off the field. Orrr... If Dak has one of those heart attacks - I'll meet my sob story budget loss. 😅

I have a blast with fun gentlemen bets. Makes the game that more exciting.

Contemplating what to buy with my gifted 100 bones... 😏
