HT,

In the light of Spring, tell us your top five brands, of any product, you stand by? No sponsorships, just companies blue-collared people can depend on buying through.

I’ll start;

- St. Croix Rods
- Pflueger
- Rapala
- Vexilar
- Otter Outdoors

I’ll be looking to add Lund to this list! 🤞🤞

Shimano and Flambeau come to mind.

They will replace anything, even if you are an idiot and roll the window up on your rod tip. Or your tackle box flies open in a bay boat and you lose all the subcompartments.

Sage, Winston , and Sweetgrass Rods
All made in USA, and latter two in Montana

Hardy (have to have a Hardy on bamboo) and Abel reels

St Croix (great customer service to go with great rods)
Power pro braided line
Rapala
zman soft plastics (Buoyant and durable)
Winchester model 12 (for when the fish are in barrels)

Mirrocraft boats
Shakespeare ugly stick rods
Berkley Gulp baits
Yamaha 4 stroke outboards
Plano tackle bags

I’ll be looking to add Lund to this list!
Nice! Grats on the boat this year. We're going to need pics of some great fishing! :) @Duck-Slayer / Matt always knocks this out of the park! @Big Sky as well.

Hmmm... Top five.

Fly - Sage.
Spin - Pflueger / St. Croix.
Fish Soft baits - Storm / Berkeley.
Worm Soft Baits - Yamamoto.
Hard Tackle - Rapala.

My main focus has been Bass and Pike. New territory has my focus on Muskie, Pike, Small/Large Bass, and... walleye. Apparently there are White Sturgeon lurking the waters as well.

So this is a very good topic to discuss,
1. Catch and Release apparel @Moosie
2. Plueger
3. Rapala
4. Okuma
5. Mercury Marine/Seaark boats

I own all of my top 5, I will continue to use them for a very long time!
Matt

Cabela's pro line mono
Ambassadeur level wind bait casters
owner hooks, gamakatsu hooks a close second.
Teeny flies
tungsten jigs

At the risk of sounding like a complete snob:
Sage rods.
Lamson and Abel reels.
Simms waders and boots.
I can’t tie to save my life and I like Montana Fly Company patterns.

All that fancy stuff is still a hell of a lot cheaper than a walleye boat.

Lots of great names being mentioned, that I agree with. To throw out a few more that I haven't seen mentioned so much:

I've been impressed, over the years, by Cabelas Fish Eagle spinning rods. I think they're often nicer than the entry level St. Croix's.

Yo Zuri makes really nice crankbaits.

Owner makes great hooks and jigheads.

For fly fishing, there's so much great stuff out there if you can afford it. If you want great quality, while paying a bit less, I'd recommend some of the nicer TFO rods and Galvan reels.

Another brand you'd be wise to check out if you're not rich and like fly fishing: Ebay. 😅
