I harvested my first archery deer this past Saturday, a small basket rack 6 point on private land. I got another buck tag and went out last night on public land and did ground hunting into the wind. Had a few failed stalks on does and the closest I got was 40 yards. Half hour before legal shooting light was over I was just having fun practicing my stalking on a spike buck when I caught movement of some rut action just ahead of me. I moved in closer grunting and snort wheezing with my mouth while closing the distance, he thought I was another buck challenging him. As I cleared brush he was 30 yards away and had an opening the size of a basketball to shoot. So I sent it.... I knew it was a good shot because he started coughing while he ran away. The rest was history. I have hunted deer with firearms since I was 12 but no experience comes close to the last 4 days with a bow.
