Well it looks like spring has finally sprung here in southern Ohio, although we are due to get some snow later tonight. The fall and spring are always my favorite times of year. I always look forward to the rejuvenation to God's earth that springtime brings. I got to go out today and find a few tasty treats to start of the year. It was a pretty good start, 101 in total, all really moist and fresh. I tend to take a lot of pictures so here are a few showing so of the areas I like to look...

Holy sh^t, nice way to start the the season. The ground must be warming up more than I thought, guess I need to get out hunting. Hope the snow tonight blows through fast, calling for 1" here in west central Ohio. I see a trip to southern Ohio might be in store this weekend, I need some hiking miles anyway.

I really hope I can find some around here this spring. I've talked to a few people and they don't know of anyone finding any in the area...

Where do these things grow typically. Never had them but bunches of you guys seem to cherish them

Mudranger1, I don't know about out there but around here I usually find the first ones of the year on the south facing slopes where the sun hits first thing of a morning. Later in the season, I usually find most of them around poplar, ash, and elm trees. I have heard of people finding them on burns out in your area but I don't have any experience there.

Very nice! I'm hoping to do some looking for them over the next couple of weeks. Hope this cold snap doesn't completely do them in. Course if it holds them back for the opening weekend of turkey season I won't be mad. Morels and bluegill make for some GREAT spring vittles.

That gets me pumped. We've probably got a good 2 weeks before they're popping around here. Can't wait!

Wow, you did well. I am east of you near the Pa. - W.V. line. Hope to get into some this weekend taking my son out for youth turkey. How are the ash trees looking down your way? Probably 80%+ in my area are infected by the emerald ash borer. Doesn't look good for the ash population.

In my area, they have managed to contain them, but about 2 counties west of us they have cut down and burned a lot of ash trees (sometimes whole stretches of woods) to prevent the spread. Those little bugs are wicked! I hope they never get into our county.
