I drew my first antelope tag this year in Colorado GMU 551 for muzzle loader. This unit is better known for elk and deer, but it has a small pronghorn population. I spent a lot of time scouting this summer and was encouraged by what I was seeing. No monsters, but several bucks I would be happy to take. My nephew drew an archery tag for the same unit, so I spent several days helping him spot and stalk. He had many opportunities, but could not close the deal. When the season opened I had many places picked out to hunt. Day 1 saw me almost pull the trigger on a nice buck, but I made a few mistakes and they blew out. Day 2 would find me in the same spot, with a solo buck spotted. I crept up a small rise and crawled until I was fully exposed. The buck finally stood up and gave me a clean shot. Happy to have some great meat for the freezer.
