Finally some good news

WTF . . . seriously? What about the abilities or disabilities of the person using the weapon? The argument holds a hell of a lot of water when you consider what an able bodied person can do with a compound versus what a paraplegic could do with a crossbow.

Disabled people using crossbows in archery season isn’t a problem. Enforcement of the laws on the books in AZ apparently is. And disabled hunters losing opportunities to get out and hunt is definitely a problem.
Ok you win only people in wheelchairs can shoot them. I don’t think anyone on here would argue that one bit.

The change is only during the archery only season. Disabled hunters are not losing that privilege of hunting. Let's be clear, it's no crossbows during the archery only season. That's it.
Montana gets pounded by archery hunters as it is. No need to introduce another way to increase success when the normal archery quotas need to be addressed. mtmuley

Once again I never said that. I don't know how else did you even read what I posted? I don't know how else to spell it out without really rubbing off some skin.
Do you support disabled hunters using crossbows during archery season in Arizona?

A simple yes or no response would be appreciated.

You'd think at the least crossbow hunters could use a peep with a sight being archery and all...nah.
When I 1st got permitted and got a x bow I complied w the requirement for open sights. Even then x bows came w rails for scopes. A few years ago CO allowed nonmagnifying scopes on disabled x bows during archery season, and any optics are legal on them during rifle season. I support the CO rule stated above. IME, x bows are cumbersome compared to rifles, heavy compared to bows, and recocking is like a little wrestling match. My effective range w 320 fps xbow and peep sights was 50 yds. I would estimate an unmagnified scope would add maybe 20 yds to that. The archery hunters I know practice w their compounds @ 70 and beyond.

How about muzzleloaders be primitive weapons, using patched round ball, black powder, and open sights. Take it back to what the special seasons were designed for.

I guess that would raise the question always pointed out by my late father in law - that bow season should be recurves or flat bows, and not compounds - a la Messrs. Pope and Young.

When we started allowing muzzleloaders during slug gun season. Most guys opted for the muzzleloader. At that time a slug gun was good for 100 maybe 120 yards. An in line with a scope was driving tacks at 200.

I can speak personally to this.

A bad SC joint prevents me from practicing to where I personally feel proficient with a vertical bow.

I bought a crossbow this year. Took it out elk hunting too. Totally legal in Wyoming. Didn’t even take a shot. It’s 100% not the same. I felt proficient without discomfort within 20 shots. No where near what it would take with a vertical bow.

I don’t know that I’d apply for an actual handicapped permit in another state when we move at the beginning of the year, but I sure appreciate the opportunity offered by Wyoming.

As with anything you’ll have people gaming the system. There’s some of us that are legit, and it still wouldn’t be good enough for some of you.

And that’s OK.

Thank you for being honest. A lot of guys I know who shoot one with no injury whatsoever, will claim it's no different. Why use it over the vertical bow then?

Why did I use it? Because I felt more proficient and I love elk hunting too much to miss out on getting out.

If that was rhetorical, yes I agree, people are not being honest with themselves, it is night and day different.

No that wasn't directed at you at all. I meant that towards everyone who claims it's the same. I mean if it's the same and your able why would you spend that kind of money and drop the compound? I've got no problem with you as an individual using it if it's legal. My problem is with putting the blanket across regular archery season and treating it as regular archery equipment. It's not.
