This is a very relatable story and experience. I "hunted elk" many years before I actually got my shot. Been fairly successful since then. So, hopefully you are well on your way to being in that top 5% of hunters that take their elk each year. Great job and congratulations on your fine makings for many meals. I have a "shank roast" in the oven right now for dinner tonight. Love elk hunting, and love elk eating.

Thanks for a great write up. Solo cow hunts during the winter and solo pack outs of said cows are when and where you either become an elk hunter for life or quit the sport. It is amazing how getting that first cow elk down makes bulls suddenly easier. Maybe it something about proving you have earned one. Congrats
