Since the federal government has been a total failure at stopping the invasion of illegals...We the people of AZ will try another measure to put a "dent" into the overall assistance they get from the state.....[Rep] Russell Pierce has introduced legislation "english only" as the state governments [provincial language] meaning if passed by the voters would require that most if not all state gov`t printing will be in "ENGLISH ONLY" no more spanish as is being done currently...this will apply to everything including water bills and most state welfare perks.....this means that most game and fish regs.will be spared from being printed in spanish in the future [good news] as was the case with prop 200 the racist hispanic groups such as [la raza/chicano por la casa/ etc. will challenge it to death in the courts...this if passed will save millions in printing costs alone.... stay tuned. :D hump

What a Great idea! hump hump hump

I love it. :D :D

But I sure do have my doubts about it passing, or if the people of Arizona do pass it, somehow it will be declared unconstitutional or somehow will not be allowed to become law. |oo

Cj-I see the power of the vote on ballot initiatives as this country's last hope. The southern end of the state is a trailed up trash heap from the millions of illegal feet crossing the border, a deer hunter was murdered last year and cut up so bad they though he was killed by a bear, ASU hired the country's most prominant hispanic advocate to represent that segment, our hospitals and schools are crowded with non-paying illegals and about 60% of our accidents with hispanics are not insured. Other people around the country just don't comprehend or care about the border states on this issue. We have to continue to push at the polls or Vincente Fox will be our next governor. It is true that 90% of the crossers are people looking for a better life but the other 10% are drug runners and murderers and it just isn't safe to hunt alone or park your truck south of Tucson anymore. I grew up there in the 60s and it is a sad day to see what our government has allowed to happen. Keep up the good fight.

Yep Ringer i have to agree with ya... the ballot inititive is our only hope...until we can get enough people in politics [at the top] that will start listening to the people...prop 200 is a great "example" of this.. "Jack" Napalatino our phony governor had a chance to stop benefits to illegals but she used her veto power to stop it. the people went around her and the rest of the no good political whores....thats what it looks like it will take [ballot inititive] to get the job done.....its slower that way but at least its the choice of the voters.

CJCJ- While I agree there is a definite problem with illegal immigration, there is a larger problem with people hiring illegal aliens. If you want to stop illegals from coming across the boarder, shut down what they're looking for (jobs).

As far as an initiative that makes "only english" on all legal documents, I would have to go against that. I believe the one thing that makes the United States great is its diversity. Until English is made the official language in the United States, we should allow for all cultures. If this gets passed it will probably be shot down in the courts at some level.

So MattK do you think your Montana Game & fish Regulations should be printed in Spanish? And are you willing to pay for it?

cjcj- If it is necessary to print them in spanish, sure. If there are a base of people that need the information, they are entitled to that information. Do you think that not printing the regulations in spanish is going to increase your odds of drawing that much? Do you think it costs more to print in spanish than it does in english? I think to increase my odds I should learn spanish and they should only be printed in Spanish that way you wouldn't have the opportunity to hunt. My odds just got better!

So Matt if "enough" illegals come to your state. then they are entitled to having all "state" information printed in Spanish? How about illegal Chinese? them to? Matt your thinking is what is terribly wrong with the direction that this country is heading.. You need to educate yourself on how much money "duel printing" costs [its double] and it also kills more trees...the enviro-wacko`s should be outraged. english Only saves trees. hump

Matt, where is your common sense?

Maybe you would think differently if you lived in Arizona and got to see first hand all the problems the illegals are causing.

I don't see how anybody could support illegal aliens in this country. Tell me, what is so great about it? Diversity??? Give me a break. So you're saying it's a good idea to have a good mix of honest and dishonest people? Why do we need to cater to lawbreakers? The majority of Mexicans in this country legally are going to understand the English language well enough, and shouldn't need everything printed in Spanish. If they don't, well that's too bad. Printing everything in Spanish is only going to allow them to never learn English.

Washington Hunter said, "I don't see how anybody could support illegal aliens in this country."

Really?

What about all the cheap assed labor they provide so Americans can maximize profit?

Doubt you'll hear much bitching from farmers, hotels, etc. etc. etc. that cut a fat hog in the ass every time they employ a few for 50 cents an hour.

Your question would also be one GW would be interested in, as he's all for illegals in the country...or at least isnt willing to do much about it. Unless you think giving them work visas/cards so they're automatically now "legal" illegals, is going to solve the problem.

Your President seems to support them???? Your American businesses surely support them.

Well Buzz, like I told Matt, if you like illegals so much, why don't you move to Arizona so you can enjoy them and benefit from them even more than you do now. I'm pretty sure Wyoming isn't overrun with them yet. Arizona would be more to your liking. Plus just think you won't have to pay nonresident prices for tags anymore.

Washington Hunter is 100% correct....printing everything is Spanish just allows them[free access] more likely they won`t learn English. But what some of you might find interesting is 2/3 of "hispanic" American citizens support "english Only" .... too bad Matt Doesn`t...

Buzz-Your ignorance is showing again. I bought a manufacturing business three years ago. Out of 11 employees 8 are Mexican. Of the 8 I know that four came here illegally and three of those later became citizens. The one that I suspected of still being illegal I got rid of last year. Now those people are making from $11 to $16.75 per hour working for me. They are very talented and are good workers. The previous owner looked away to make more money. It was good for him and good for the immigrants. It also took some very good jobs away from American workers. The illegals may start at $5 and hour but they do work up to good wages and tend to hold a job. I am a Bush supporter overall but not on immigration. He is wrong and is going for a growing voting block.

This is a good proposition I think, keep at it CJ...

I have seen a lot of the world, and don't recall to many places that allow a lot of other "Foreign" languages to be printed all over the place, excepting in places that cater to a certain language (Tijuana) for example, they are pretty adamant about the fact that you learn their tongue and not the other way around.
These people coming into this country need to learn our form of English, or stay where they come from. Diversity only goes so far and then there has to be some uniformity.

If you think diversity sucks, we would all have one religion, one way of thinking, one type of car, one type of hunting, one type of.... The list would literally go on forever. I'm happy for diversity in the United States. It makes us! For God's sake I would hate to think like most on this topic. I am not so egotistical as to think my way is the only correct way. I look up to people with diverse backgrounds. Speaking of the Chinese, they were instrumental in creating the railroads in the United States. You can thank them later.

The only part I don't disagree with is the illegal aliens. But that has nothing to do with this proposition. STOP THE PEOPLE FROM HIRING THEM!!!! Ringer is a great example, glad you finally fired the person you suspected of being an illegal. The person before you looked the other way. That is the problem. Not speaking a different language. Why don't you guys learn Spanish.

Buzz,

Your 50 cent an hour comment is about in line with all your other "fact and figures", pure B. S.. I worked on a dairy in Grand Jct in the early eighties. I was trying to gain my CO residencey so I could go to Guide school in Steamboat. That plan never panned out when the realities of making a living as guide finnally sunk in. Back then the pay was $5.00 an hour and there were few white boys who could or would milk cows. Of the two guys I worked with one was illegal until he got his American girl freind pregnat and married her. The other was illegal, sent most of his money home, and lived alone in a dumpy small trailer behind the milk house. He knew about as much English as I knew Spanish. These guys were both honest, hard working, decent guys. I would guess that it would be even harder to find white boys to do farm labor today.

So what's the solution? Most Americans are too spoiled and lazy to do this kind of work. I don't like illegals anymore than the rest of you, but the way I see it, we only have ourselves to blame for this. We want cheap food, good paying jobs with good benefits, less hours of work and holidays and weekends off. The cows need to be milked 2 to three times a day 365 days a year. Maybe we can just import all our food and turn the farm land into hunting preserves?

BHR- I agree with what you are saying. Illegals do fill cheap labor areas in the United States. The 50 cent an hour comment was an exaggeration meant to point out the fact most illegals will work for less than minimum wage and do labor that other U.S. citizens find undesireable. It's seems you and Buzz tend to have the same idea on this one. Just my observation.

BHR, I agree with what you just said.

The reality is, though, that cheap illegal labor is not only wanted, but accepted, and promoted by certain industries.

I agree that you'd have a hard time finding people to milk cows for $5 an hour...maybe the welfare ranchers/dairy farmers need to spend more on labor costs...and the consumer needs to pay more than $3 a gallon for milk...

Oh, and I did throw the 50 cents an hour comment out there as a gross exaggeration of cheap labor provided by illegals...I guess my attempt at sarcasm was lost...sorry about that.
