Ole Fred here needed some lessons on long alarming his trophy. This is the Montana record in Outdoor Life in 1960. The antlers (maybe a reproduction) are hanging in Cabelas in Missoula. They are much more impressive in person.

I was stalking this bull when he turned around and fed back up a ravine. He ended up walking past my wife and friend at 27yards…that ended the hunt!

381”. 57/58” beams. Tiny thirds hurt him a bit.

You hunt in way better spots than I do.

Im fairly certain you guys are hunting a
"larger subspecies" of elk that dont exist in the units I randomly choose to hunt.

I think 5 but 4 of them are over 370. This one would have been if not busted. And a few others pretty close but not quite.
This was 344 gross as is.

No failures on this thread as far as I'm concerned. Any elk is a good elk. I will attach a picture of my favorite bull and he's honestly way too small to bother scoring.

He's my favorite as it was 11 months post brain surgery for a benign tumor. It felt like a huge accomplishment to take any bull on public land with my bow. My wife even helped me pack it out!

I scored this guy at 356", all though it was my first time ever scoring an elk. Crazy how different angles can make a bull look so different

Why do I have an urge to show up at @Greenhorn 's house with Hopzone, in hopes just to admire his bulls and hear stories.
