I think this thread has made the point that there's plenty of really good looking bulls that score in that 300-330 range.

Agree. My goal on an elk hunt is to take an older 6pt (or better), regardless of the numbers. I'm after the oldest bull I can find. The more the sway back, the whiter the coat, the flatter the teeth, the better. That's the ideal anyway. Like everything in life, the ideal is generally the exception lol

I got the age on this bull today from this past December 15.5 yrs old! But even more special, my grandson Carter, who killed a smoker in 2022 shot his bull first out of the same group as mine. His was 7.5 yrs.






My bull stepped into the clear as Carter shot. They ended up laying not 20 yds apart. 313 & 330

Our elk seem to have short beams here which hurts score. His beams were 46 or 47”

I've never arrowed a BIG bull.....just some nice bulls. I agree with Buzz, most nice bulls are in that 300-330" net range. I'm often the 'bearer of bad news" when I have to officially measure a bull for a hunter after he's been told his bull is giant. More often than not, it ends up measuring like most of the ones posted here.....with a few exceptions.

Here are some that were actually officially measured and entered for perspective.

261", He looks like a solid 3.5-4.5 yo bull.

By color phase there were several bulls in this heard of 100 plus, no score. About 1/2 mile from the house at 1400 hours today.
