Elk .... Let's see them!!!

My 16 year old boy is showing me up. He had already passed on some spikes. Pulled him out of school because I new this bull was hitting a wallow. I can't pass an elk up so I was already tagged out on a raggy. I am so damned proud of this boy. He and the bull are beasts.
Outstanding!

Special Rifle Tag, public land
Scores 352 broken, 365 if assume both 4ths were the same
Mass measurement between brows and 2nds is 10.5 inches
Ivories are almost non-existent because they are so worn down
It was super special to do it with my dad and brother-in-law
Perhaps the largest elk I might kill in my life. Incredible experience

Holy cow great bulls

About a mile from the house, perhaps we’ll find them in November. Should be shedding antlers by now.

Here's the deal. Since the "Let's see them" pronghorn thread is one of the most viewed on this site, and most viewed by lurkers, I am thinking we should do the same with elk and show how many elk guys on this site take.

This thread will be a "sticky thread" and be at the top of the Elk Forum, from here on out. It doesn't matter when you shot it, how you shot it, or if you were just the person helping, this is the thread to post elk pictures. No need to post a long story, just a pic and a few notes about the hunt.

Be as specific or vague as you want, as far as location.

Here goes.

2005 - Missouri River Breaks rifle tag. My son's first elk. Most fun I ever had on an elk hunt. We were joined by my brother, Logdawg.

Thanks for doing this. I hope this thread becomes as popular as the pronghorn thread. I know you guys have shot a lot of elk, so post 'em up right here, even if they have previsouly been posted on another thread.
Nice, looks really thick between the 4s and 5s.

I don't have a lot of elk pictures, most were shot, gutted and tossed on a horse and away we went. We never packed a camera, more junk to pack around.

I think this one was shot about 99. My best spike to date. 5" brow tines, and a 5x6. Worst eating elk I've ever tasted, tough, and gamey as hell.

My first archery kill. I think '94, I was 16, first solo elk hunt... Grizz bear ate most of that one before we got it packed out.

Buddies bull from '98 maybe? I think this was elk number 6 in about 30 minutes. The only picture I got from that morning before my camera froze. A couple small 6pts, a few raggies, and I shot a cow. Lots of packing that week. I think my dad was the only one to not kill something that day, but he didn't care.

I think this was '95. Opening morning, one and done. Moved on to hunting big deer...

A freak Colorado bull from 2004 or 5.

Another archery bull. Shot at 6 steps... I think this was '97.

Part of the collection. The big broken bull in the middle was shot by my grampa about 1970, scores 380+/-.

The last picture I can find is of a little guy I shot with my muzz in CO a few years back. I think it was my 25th elk.

All nice, that last one is very impressive!
