Elk .... Let's see them!!!

My cow from last week. I hiked and hunted this unit hard before I was able to fill my cow tag. It was shaping up to be a 5 mile uphill pack out back to the car. Luckily the landowner down below was having problems with elk and allowed us to packout downhill so we'd come back and harvest more cows next year.

Montana 2023 Rifle Opening Morning
A hunt to remember with my soon-to-be brother-in-law in my favorite mountain range. Between riding the mules and hiking, it was 12 miles and 3700 ft elevation gain from truck to elk. An epic opening day!
You are marrying into an excellent family. Congrats on the elk - bigger congrats on the the other stuff!

First elk for both my boys (12 & 13). Belly crawled to top of a ridge with a herd of 200+ across the draw. Couldn't get any closer than 325 yards. When both boys had their crosshairs on the cow they wanted, I counted down 3, 2, 1, shoot. They shot simultaneously and dropped their cows 50 yards apart!! The 6.5 Creedmoor strikes again (142 grain Accubond LR). All their work in 4H shooting sports this year really paid off! It would be tough to be a prouder dad!!
