Still alive. Last weekend during rifle deer season. While blue grouse hunting smelled elk so thought I'd poke around. Found him bedded down.

The Utah dream became a reality this year! I’d tell folks to be aware of the challenges of the mid-rifle hunts, but don't be scared of them either.

With all the stud bulls in this thread, I’m sheepishly adding my raghorn from yesterday. But I’m stoked and couldn’t be happier with my first branch antlered bull. I’ve killed a couple cows and a spike over the years, but finally got a BULL. MT general season opener was good to me!

With all the stud bulls in this thread, I’m sheepishly adding my raghorn from yesterday. But I’m stoked and couldn’t be happier with my first branch antlered bull. I’ve killed a couple cows and a spike over the years, but finally got a BULL. MT general season opener was good to me!

Don't be ashamed at all. How many people get a bull elk over their lifetime? It is a small club to be in. I got my first bull 1-year ago today. It was 26 degrees out and I was doing a naked jig I was so thrilled. My first trip to Montana. Congratulations!

Thanks! No shame at all, still happy as can be. I wish it was 26 degrees though. It was getting hot & bugs were terrible resulting in hundreds of gnat bites that caused a huge reaction that needed steroids and is still bad. And I would do it all again with no complaints!!!

Montana 2023 Rifle Opening Morning
A hunt to remember with my soon-to-be brother-in-law in my favorite mountain range. Between riding the mules and hiking, it was 12 miles and 3700 ft elevation gain from truck to elk. An epic opening day!
