Elk in Book Cliffs Sego Canyon - recommendations for Oct 7th Spike

My buddy and I are going back to hunt his old stomping grounds in the Book Cliffs. He hunted there 20 years ago but hasn't been back since. Unfortunately his dad just passed away unexpectedly and his dad was the brains of our operation. We have been doing our homework in preparation for our hunt but I am not convinced my friend remembers how to get back to the old camp.

They enter the roadless area at the Sego Canyon trail head and it appears they hunt East from there approximately 10 miles on horseback. Does anyone have experience with that area and could provide some intel as to the water conditions, locations and where to camp. My buddy called the area Three Springs but I think that was the name his family used as I don't see it on a map. I'm confident he comes in off the BLM road 160, North of the Hells Hole area and south of Bogart Canyon.

Any intel about water, where to camp and general directions for hunting would be appreciated.

I have spent time in there in 2015. I packed water in where I was camped, there was quite abit of water in the bottom of buck canyon and most others in the bottom had creeks. I think I remember seeing 3 springs on a map. I was spiked about 5 mi in the direction you described and hunted 1-4 mi from camp.

Would you be willing to share some specifics regarding the Buck Canyon area and your experience. Again, we're looking for a spike and would hope that hunting in the Buck canyon area would hold some animals and equally important is water.
