That’s been good medicine on elk for me: 6.5 PRC with 156 Berger. They rarely ever bounce off.I'm thinking I'll take the 6.5 PRC with the 156 grain Berger but I'll have my .338 RUM in camp if I find that the .264 bullets actually do just bounce off an elk.
Tell me about your 338-06AI load with the Hammer. Been thinking about loading the 186gr. Hammer in the standard .338-06 for deer this fall.339/06 Ackley Improved 175 Hammer; 300 WSM 154 HHT backup. "Lord willing", of course.
I haven't said what bullet I'm gonna use. Or what cartridge. mtmuleyCan we start an “elk bullet” bullet thread every month.
I want to reply 7 rem mag and see @mtmuley reply .300 rem mag with a mild concussion EVERY DAMN TIME!!
I’ve got a wild as* guess.I haven't said what bullet I'm gonna use. Or what cartridge. mtmuley
I mean, he packed that air rifle, didn’t he?If I draw the tag I am hoping to get, I think I could swap scopes on my Sako 338 LM to make it Idaho legal. I could then use 300 gr Bergers on something other than milk jugs and eastern whitetails. That, of course, would be contingent on my brother being willing to pack a 15.9 pound rifle in 4 miles for me.

Just noticed this thread. Is it really going on ten pages? Anybody here not laughing at complete dumbpfgcuks, please go watch some YouTube videos.
6.5’s just don’t have any thump. You need an excess of thump to shoot elk.I have heard that some greenhorn elk hunters plan on using 6.5 PRCs this year. Can you imagine!
And, @Big Stick, is that you?
