I get sheit anytime I mention that I want to do an Ele hunt more than anything before I go to the happy hunting grounds. Some of you may too. So here are some real, not emotional stats.
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) officially accepts that there are at least 600,000 Ele's in the wild in Africa. With all the antis attending their meetings and with a two thirds vote required to change any damn thing, they agreed to a 2010 total "offtake" of 1540 Eles in the countries they have approved for trophy hunting. This is 0.26% of Ele population. Ele's reproduce at 3% to 5% per year! I have first hand seen the havoc over populations of Ele's reek on habitat in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Kruger NP in RSA. I have been told by people who have been there than Botswana is suffering habitat destruction from Ele's. They leave nothing but sand and dust!
Currently the USFWS will allow import of Ele trophies only from Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe even tho CITES has set quotas for Cameroon, Mozambique and Zambia also.
The only thing "endagered" about Ele's is their habitat which they themselves are endangering because of emotion!
SAVE THE PLANET!! KILL AN ELE !!
