50MM state and 20MM local taxes a year.
750-1000 jobs, according to their website. (Assumes mine life span of 20 years)

Per 2019 -ADFG

32 MM revenue from Fish and Game Sales, 17MM of which is sport fishing.

Im not sure how the commercial side works.

(Totally irrelevant fact Colorado Fish and Game license generate 125MM)
So 70million somolians annually and minimum 750 jobs. That is a helluva offer and I see that argument better now. Alternatively, could destroy the salmon fishery, right? Besides the revenues from fishing, the populace also benefits from personal income and subsistence. I think maintaining things as they are is still the best option. It’s a moral choice as while as total economics here.
As has been already said, AK is dependent on OG tax revenue. I also know of the necessity for OG exploration revenue here in NM.

All depends on the way you look at it.

Compare it with OG. The 50MM is all in, that's excise taxes on the ore (I don't actually know if this is taxed I couldn't find any data), and income tax for the company.

In 2018 (most recent report) Oil and Gas excise taxes.

Then add the corporate income tax 1
1598888316247.png
Property Taxes 2

So the state got ~ 1 Billion from oil companies in 2018... seems like a lot as well right?

...

2012
Excise

Income
1598888896776.png
Property

So ~7 Billion.

Therefore state revenues are down ~6 Billion from 8 years ago.

This is why these projects are coming up.

Also average price of oil in 2012, $94.05, price in 2018 $65.23, average price so far 2020 $38.50.

^ you ain't drilling yourself out of that hole, as CHK.

My suspicion is that North Dynasty/ Pebble Partnership as operators, they are working to get the permit, which they will then flip to another company who will operate.
The current folks on the pebble team are going to make a boat load if and when the project gets the green light.

I also wonder if this mine is essentially a test case for a whole lot of folks to see if they can get a mine approved and if so more will follow.

Pure speculation... but that's kinda how private OG works, and per above the state needs like 50 pebble mine size operations, to keep the house of cards intact.

Look at those beautiful noxious weeds she is posing amongst.

There is no finer visualization of this administration when it comes to conservation & public lands management than this photo. It's got everything: Out of touch east coast elitists sitting in a field of Russian Thistle (I mean, come on.) someplace they went on vacation, trying to tell us what pretty flowers there are out in the "wild."

To be fair she is not in the noxious weed department. But it just looks dumb and as a noxious murderer it annoys me! Lol

So true, I prefer the stalwarts of conservative family values like the Trumps and Falwells.

Yes deflect drug use and banging ur brothers widow and others at the same time because you hate someone else so much. Those values definitely get U invited to the next family BBQ to.
All I did was state some facts about hunter biden. In no way defended others while stating facts. Your welcome to state your own on Don Jr. If u are so inclined.

Wait, did you read the thread title?

She's the face of the administration. Illegally, I might add.

The real rub for many of us is that we are now at the mercy of someone like DJT to tweet his thumbs up or thumbs down on shit like this. It's anti-American and smacks of royalty telling us what crumbs we can have or not.

So devil’s advocate argument here: how much proposed benefit to the locals and State would this operation offer? Everyone knows of the huge potential impact to the fishery. What are the economical arguments tendered by the mining officials to counter this? I admit to not seeking their point of view out as I see no benefit to AK.

What I've seen, best estimate is that on a year/year basis the mine would provide about 60-70% of the economic interest as the BB fishing with about 15% of the employment. So on a per person employment value the mine is about 5 fold greater?

Finding facts on this is quite a challenge, it all depends on how you want to see them displayed and in what light. Those towns are a friggin ghost town for 46 weeks a year. Get in, get your $$$ and get the F out. 80% of the fishermen in the area live in other states. How does that benefit Alaska? They make their money and take it home with them, but they are quick to include those dollars in the total economics. :) There are tribal leaders on record stating they don't want their young people working good jobs such as mining/oil/gas because they would leave their communities. They would rather they continue to live in poverty@ 60-80% unemployment once those 8 weeks of fishing season is over. Easy to be against something when you 1, live off the government, or 2 don't live in the region (i.e. your comment as no benefit).

In terms of state revenue (i.e. taxes) The fishing industry costs the state money while the mining pays for itself about 5x over. Neither compare to oil, so it really doesn't matter, but the fact that the second largest industry in AK is subsidized by tax payes is Fd up. You would think that an industry that boasts a $6B economy would be able to cover operating costs ($120M/year) incurred by government... but politics and stuff. They are all starving fishermen if you ask them. If you think the oil industry is making a profit off natural resources, avert your eyes to fishing.

In terms of what it would mean to the region if the mine was put in, assuming that locals hold their nose and go work there. Take a look at Kotzebue. Red Dog mine is the largest employer in the region. People went from living off the government to making $100k a year, I think its about 4-450 native employees, and most live in the area. They are the single largest native employer on a percent basis, IIRC, second only to OG in the state. The mine pays something like $20M a year in (extortion) property tax to the region, while no other property tax is collected. Pebble would employ about 2-3x as many people.

I don't like comparing industries, they are all needed, but when we say one is more important than the other it can get ugly quickly. The state is hurting right now, and there is no end in sight to the economic woes. When 90% of your state revenue is generated from oil/gas taxes we need to look for any all sources. I'd personally like to see the same royalty tax applied to all natural resources to include fish.

Illegally?.....tundra trammelling? Did she slip across The 'eh' border? Do you have her mixed up the MO Bride?

No hate coming from here, I will admit my post was 100% trolling.
