Don’t Build Your House Behind A Road Sign

The conservation officer I do hunters Ed with shows a slide of a road sign with bullet holes in it. He asks the participants what’s wrong with this? And they all say something about bad image for hunters or ethics as the officer scrolls to the next slide and it’s the same picture but circled in the back of the picture is a house tucked in the woods that also had bullet holes in it.

People will do reckless stuff when they think they can get away with it. Had a local BLM officer present at an OHA meeting this last spring, and he was talking about the bizarre affect the outdoors & feeling of seclusion has on people. Folks who have never had any sort of record, by all other means law abiding gun owners, get out into the forests a suddenly seem to forget everything about firearm safety.

I used to be a deputy in Colorado high country. Went on a call once, vehicle shot at. Indeed, a wife was sitting in the passenger seat watching the husband fish. The bullet came thru her headrest and couldn’t have missed her by more than an inch. Sure enough, there was a sign 50 yards behind the van.
