Does the outdoor channel hurt the image of hunters?

We need to be respectful of the animals we hunt, act like we've been there and done that before instead of acting like a bunch of blood thirsty pro wrestlers overdosed on steroids. I won't mention the shows or individuals, if you've watched them you all know who they are. If it's true our future depends on what the 70% to 80% of the non hunting population thinks of hunting then we and we alone will be the ones to determine our future based upon our actions, it's really that simple.

There can be good too. When my wife was first thinking about hunting she didn't think it would be 'cool' because she didn't think women hunted. Then she saw shows with Kandi Kisky and Vicki C..normal, plain women who hunt..and was psyched to get out and do it. Yes, there's Tiffany and Nicole, and Melissa Bachman, and Junie..but she sort of makes fun of them for having perfect makeup and tight clothes, but she respects them as fellow female hunters. She has seen enough through hunting with me and friends and sifting through shows on the channels to mock the 'stupid' shows. She mocks the guys on guided hunts in a treestand trying to teach us to hunt and talking about how they hunted so hard. She also can see and differentiate the shows like Fresh Tracks and Into High Country and Meateater where they are really hunting on public land and hauling out their own meat and actually showing the audience a thing or two. So, in a way, there IS good to be had from the channels.

Let's be real Kandy and whoever are not real hunters they do the same canned shoots other outdoor channel stars do. Anybody who uses a pink gun or how is not a hunter. Anybody who wears pink camo is not a hunter. Anybody know how wears a white fur like Taylor Drury is not a hunter. Real women bunters are the same as real male hunters in the sense that they use the same gun as their dad or grandma or maybe they just use the same gun their brother uses and for damn sure granddady doesn't have a pink gun.

You're so cute when you're so closed minded. How in the hell do you ever get laid? I'm sure you can find fault in any woman or anything else. I'm glad my wife isn't a closed minded bigot....and she doesn't used pink anything

I also have have to disagree with MB on his comments! The Kiskys are true hunters in the sense of the word even though they only hunt whitetails mostly on low fence property they own. Who really cares weather a lady has a pink gun or outfit if she gets out there and gets it done? Get real man! Fighting among ourselves on what I would call trivial things like you mentioned is not helping the cause at all.

You choose some interesting rants in your few posts on here so far. If you decide who the "real hunters" are by the color of their weapon or clothes, it makes me think you must not know many real hunters.

I'm personally not a fan of the pink stuff myself, but I wouldn't be so arrogant as to judge someone's skill or ability on the color of their gear.

Let me see if I have this right, because you think you saw an ear tag or a fence, people who wear certain clothes, have certain color equipment, hunt from a blind, wear a certain hat, because they don't push the deer after a possibly bad hit they are not a REAL hunter? And to the point about the fur hat....Have you happened to see the picture of Randy wearing a fur hat recently? So he is not a hunter due to wearing a fur hat? Are you also saying elk and deer hunters who sit on water holes are not hunters?

While I agree there are some shows I don't like due to 1 reason or another, I guess I never thought about them not being real hunters. To me a hunter is someone who sit and waits or stalks an animal, but I guess that might just be me.

Why aren't any of the men using pink bows and guns and what's the practical use of pink bows or guns? What I'm saying is people wear camo and orange for a reason and the reason is deer have trouble seeing camo and orange because they see in shades of blue. Let's be real people oy use pink guns and bows or whatever for attention and I'd rather hunt with a mountain woman than an outdoor channel model but that's just me I guess

But do you really think pink bows and guns are necessary because it's all for attention we both know that and when your hunting you don't want to get any attention that why people don't hunt in clown costumes and you said your wife doesn't use pink guns that's a great thing I'm jut sick and tired of seeing super models in pink on the outdoor channel shooting a deer in the leg and then having the outfitter finnish it off after 3 hours and I hate all these men on the outdoor channel pretending they are so macho and wearing war face paint not black or camo face paint but looks like something out of a war movie. To sum up there's about as much practicality for pink guns and war paint as there is for clown costumes although outdoor channel is a clown costume would be more entertaining

The whitetail episodes, especially on private land, make me cringe. I think of hunting out West as different than being dropped off in late afternoon at a blind near some grain in the road. I want to see big trees in the mountains and sage on the prairies and cacti in the desert.

When your physique resembles Santa Claus yet you are "hunting hard for big game" then something is not quite as displayed on the show. Most likely private land and perhaps not even with a draw tag.

Shooting wild pigs from choppers is bizarre and making an ethical shot from a tilting platform seems unlikely.

Some of the archery shots are a tad far back and yet you hear "10-ring" which is crap. I had breakfast with a guy that ran a camera on a long-range show and he claims a lot of bad hits are not shown. 1000 yards is a long way to cover even if no wind and usually there are two or three wind effects over 1000 yards in the mountains. I can't watch those shows.

Does it hurt how non-hunters view hunting? The rallying point seems to be when a hunter is shown next to a trophy that is perceived to be noble, helpless or endangered. The vast majority of adults are not hunters yet do not spend much time thinking about hunting pro/con, either. I am careful around non-hunters when hunting is being discussed in that I mention that I eat what I shoot and the meat is free-range, organic and no antibiotics or growth hormones. My goal is for non-hunters to see me a a typical hunter and then when they see a story about a knucklehead they will think that is not a typical hunter and more likely a criminal which is often the case.
