Yeah you got me.357 magnum is a magnum. Just saying
Sure....for a cow. Bulls require 300 rum minimum.
nice elk and nice shot by your friend
Well come on. I’ll get you on a critter with a handgun....26 inches of barrel and the high side of 90 grains of powder. Be cool to kill one with a handgun. Done the shotgun kill. Twice. mtmuley
we will start a little smaller and more forgiving first.
Critter. The bigger the animal....the less forgiving on the recovery. Are you talking about the critter or the handgun?
No. Medium duper, normal duper and any well placed shot with a 100gr or larger bullet traveling at an adequate rate of speed will do it. Eg people killing bull elk with 100gr archery broadheads.
They dont call Archery the wounding season for no reason.really don’t want to compare archery and bullets.
they both kill by blood loss but there are tons of differences in the wound/damage.
One day I'm going to kill an elk with my .357. I get an OTC cow tag valid on private land. I have a small amount of private land, but elk are here. mtmuleyWell come on. I’ll get you on a critter with a handgun....

You do not need a world shattering magnum with the energy of a howitzer to drop elk....
not my elk.....just a friend.
174 yards. 8 3/8”
357 magnum. 158 xtp. Impact velocity would be about 1100fps.
