Disposing of old ammo

Personally, I'd throw them in the burn barrel or fire pit.
I thought that would be dangerous, and once found 11 loaded rounds in a burn barrel at the range. I picked them out and looked for more, the emailed the club president to warn him(he’s the one who burns the trash) . He replied “thanks, but don’t worry. At least half the barrels I burn have live ammo in them. All it does is make a popping sound”.

I’m not sure I want to try it, but apparently it’s less likely to go bad than I would have guessed.

Don't burn. Pull the bullet's, probably they are still good! Then run each one through the chamber and fire on the primer in an mty case. Trash the brass. Clean the barrel.

What about old shotgun and rimfire ammo? My stepson has a bunch he inherited from his father.
