Deer - lets see em

I would have been too!!? Holy smokes! I wanna love and wow at the same time.

Your dad looks really upset if he’s 3rd from right!? 3rd from left looks like a fun guy to go to the saloon with… 😂

What’s the story why’s he look so down?
I went through a period when I didn’t smile much for photos. Probably inherited that.

Managed to find a cool buck here in Western Montana recently. He is heavy, tall, and has some cool features. Found him with a doe on lock down in a small patch of isolated Douglas Firs at around 6k ft. As you can see, plenty of snow, and it was COLD.

Big G4s! His antlers look like they've been rubbed on burned trees. Cool buck.

Rather humbling to see all the great deer posted by Hunttalkers. I once again found myself scratching for local whitetail opportunity..yep, Montana isn't entirely the holy grail on public land. Private locked up tight.
Back hunting a small bma which gets alot of traffic, deer and bird hunting. The neighbors get to whacking deer with rifles about now which further increases deer paranoia. I spent 4-5 evenings in my hidey spot, below zero each time and mostly calm with favorable light wind direction. Every night passing on does, waiting for some buck action. Good natural blind, I had deer at 15' on occasion. Small bucks filtering through . Saturday night, with all the surrounding shooting, the bucks wouldn't budge from the brush until the final couple of minutes. Then three jumped the fence on to the bma. Shot this cutey at 50 yards with my trusty .50 cal inline. Half mile drag, which had me huffing since I'm guessing the deer weighed as much as I do.
To spice things up, I decided I needed a little celebratory whiskey. My only recourse was to enter Teasers, with the look of a guy who recently gutted a deer. With a wife that teaches at the local high school, and a truck familiar to many, I wondered if this was wise...small town gossip. The cover of darkness.
Jeez, naked women on the bar side made it an interesting in and out.🤣
So far no fallout, though I confessed to my wife just to cover my azz.20221120_092836.jpg

Here in my part of Wisconsin the rut is usually pretty much winding down by the time gun season starts. This year seems to be a bit of an exception. This buck was third in line behind a panting doe.
one of my neighbors keeps pretty extensive photos and a list of shooter sized bucks. After hearing of all the area success on nice bucks this year, when he asked for a picture so he could confirm what buck it is and check it off of his ' survivors' list . I responded with " Might as well tear that list up and start a new one next year " !IMG_3917.jpg

2022 home state buck. First good one in a few years. Good couple days with my oldest son. Middle sons buck this year, and youngest sons buck, his first ever deer by himself.

I probably glassed this area 20+ different days this year since it’s in a convenient area for me. Friday was the first time I saw this buck around there. This is in open country too. It was a fun hunt with my wife and youngest. She made a perfect and difficult shot on him and he never left his bed. Definitely the hardest season for me to turn up a good buck but I’m glad it worked out for her to get a chance at this buck. My youngest thought it was a pretty cool sled ride sitting on moms buck.
