My middle child and oldest daughter is home for college break. She wanted to deer hunt of course so we got her an Iowa late muzzleloader tag. During this season you can actually use a ML, bow, crossbow, or handgun of certain calibers. She decided at the start that she really wantd to shoot one with my .357 revolver. Of course she wanted to shoot a buck with it, but as time and numbers of sits went by she realized that may not happen. I explained to her that shooting a doe with a handgun is still quite a feat and challenge. So a week ago she changed her tune a little. We still had several sits in temps from -10 to 10 degree weather. Yesterday on our way to the woods I asked if she was ready to just shoot one at a greater distance with the ML? NOPE, she said she still was going to stick to the handgun. Well, it all worked out when this doe stepped out into the field 40 yards away. She walked slightly away and gave Carlee a 50 yard quartering away shot. She placed the bullet perfectly right behind the shoulder. It went thru one rib, the top of the heart and exited the top of the deer's neck because its head was down when she pulled the trigger. It didn't even have time to lift its head at the sound of the shot, and down she went in her tracks. It was quite exciting and I was most pleased and proud of her for sticking to her goal of shooting a deer with the handgun. She has shot 2 antelope and 3 deer now with a rifle, muzzleloader, and now a handgun, and has used a total of 5 bullets. I sure can't say that! Well, one last critter to butcher. She skinned it almost all by herself last night when we got her home. Thanks for reading dad's bragging again
