My dad and I headed out to eastern colorado hopeing to find a meat buck. The previous weekend we had only seen 4 does, one of which I shot, so our expectations were rather low. So when we found a group of 15 mulies with two decent bucks we were really excited. After 2 blown stalks and a missed running shot we found the group bedded in some very tall sage brush. We stalked up to where we thought they were and I figured they had moved on us. Two steps later a doe blew out of the sage at 20 yards and all of a sudden there were deer every wear. We were standing behind a moo cow decoy so they all calmed down and stopped broadside at about 60 yards. My dad hammered the buck with his 1909 Argentine mauser .270 win that I built for him while in gunsmithing school. We logged 7 miles according to the gps going after this one buck. I feel very lucky to have gotten a second, and third chance and couldn't have asked for a better hunt with my dad.
