FWIW the mortality rate is much higher for older people. For most people the rate is less than 1%, which is still pretty high.
The death rate for the elderly who often have other underlying health issues is quite high. The death rate for younger people is much, much lower. Combine the two and you get the 3.4% figure.1%? As per the WHO the current death rate is 3.4%.
It's all speculation at this point. The dead rate in the US is likely to be different that China and we have been under testing people so we really don't know who all has it. The latest I read this morning was that the dead rate is similar to the flu.The death rate for the elderly who often have other underlying health issues is quite high. 12,000 to 61,000 people die from the flu each year in the usa. We have 290 corona virus infections so far & 50 + deaths. What the hell is all the panic about??????????????????????? What am I missing?
Wait a month and ask this question. The flu is already established in society, Coronavirus is just now spreading. Coronavirus spreads much faster and is much deadlier. WHO is estimating 20% to 60% worldwide contamination. Current death rate is 3.4%. Cut the death rate to 1% of 20% of 7.8B people and you have 15M dead.12,000 to 61,000 people die from the flu each year in the usa. We have 290 corona virus infections so far & 50 + deaths. 300,000,000 die every year already, 15,000,000 more is a drop in the bucket. Yes, sad that people will die, but from a big picture, humans aren't the most important species in the world point of view, it's a non issue if the current death rates hold true.Wait a month and ask this question. Its all good until you are the statistic.300,000,000 die every year already, 15,000,000 more is a drop in the bucket. Yes, sad that people will die, but from a big picture, humans aren't the most important species in the world point of view, it's a non issue if the current death rates hold true.
I'm becoming less and less nervous. But I'm not old and I don't have underlying respiratory issues. I'm glad kids seemed to be spared.
Vaccine trials start next week here in WA. https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...live-updates/#link-ZHPR5UVTSJAJPAHG4HV7OWPVQUThe downside of this attitude being that as the 99% get more comfortable, the denominator of the ratio gets much larger, taking the numerator with it.
Sure would be nice to take some measures to drag our feet on this and buy us some time to figure out what we're dealing with.
