This just in from the Texas Dept of Health:

Wash your hands as if you had just finished slicing your jalapenos for your salsa, and decided you need to take your contacts out.
Actually ripped off from NM and it's preparring green chile....notice from my congresswoman.

MRNA... Bets are in and she's running hard! INO... Wish I'd been on that from the get-go! That would be $$$!
GILD or (&) MRNA good ones to run with in today's market...

8 billion $ to bump these. Pharma/bio companies will hopefully get something out for this.

VIR's interesting as well as they are directly tied in with Chinese government for testing. We'll see who's neck is further out there to get chopped or to be the first across the finish line.

1%? As per the WHO the current death rate is 3.4%.
The death rate for the elderly who often have other underlying health issues is quite high. The death rate for younger people is much, much lower. Combine the two and you get the 3.4% figure.

It's all speculation at this point. The dead rate in the US is likely to be different that China and we have been under testing people so we really don't know who all has it. The latest I read this morning was that the dead rate is similar to the flu.

Yeah, we're relying on statistics from China (dubious) and cases and a minority of cases in Italy and South Korea.

12,000 to 61,000 people die from the flu each year in the usa. We have 290 corona virus infections so far & 50 + deaths. What the hell is all the panic about??????????????????????? What am I missing?

Wait a month and ask this question. The flu is already established in society, Coronavirus is just now spreading. Coronavirus spreads much faster and is much deadlier. WHO is estimating 20% to 60% worldwide contamination. Current death rate is 3.4%. Cut the death rate to 1% of 20% of 7.8B people and you have 15M dead.

300,000,000 die every year already, 15,000,000 more is a drop in the bucket. Yes, sad that people will die, but from a big picture, humans aren't the most important species in the world point of view, it's a non issue if the current death rates hold true.

"U.S. health officials on Thursday briefed lawmakers in Congress and said they believe the case fatality rate in this country will most likely be in the range of 0.1 to 1.0 percent"

"Evidence is mounting that the disease is most likely to result in serious illness or death among the elderly and people with existing health problems. It has little effect on most children, for reasons unknown. "

I'm becoming less and less nervous. But I'm not old and I don't have underlying respiratory issues. I'm glad kids seemed to be spared.

The downside of this attitude being that as the 99% get more comfortable, the denominator of the ratio gets much larger, taking the numerator with it.

Sure would be nice to take some measures to drag our feet on this and buy us some time to figure out what we're dealing with.
