Wife has never seen the Rockies. What’s are some vacation ideas/spots. No specific area locked down yet (except not Denver) but also not a camping trip…

Thanks!
Josh

For the rockies you'll be in the northern part , we like the town Meeker and the road going north to Craig is very pretty .
The southwest corner has a lot of ruins and small out of the way parks of them that I found interesting .
Depends on what kind of fun you're looking for I guess , but it is a beautiful state pretty much everywhere , have fun .

Hard to go wrong with that SW Corner. Hit Durango for a few days then take the Million Dollar Highway through Silverton and on to Ouray for a couple days and hit the hot springs. Didn't mention if you have kids or not or what kind of activities you like. More of that kind of info will help with more specific recommendations. If you are talking Summer either take your jeep or rent one and take one of the passes (not Black Bear) to Telluride from Ouray, it's a fantastic way to spend a day and there is some solid food/beer in Telluride. Ouray isn't much for food or craft beer but the hot springs make up for it. The best in Colorado IMO.

The ski resort towns practically give away Airbnbs during the summer off-season. Our favorite is Breckinridge. Any of them will have great hiking and fishing nearby. You might also think about spending a couple of days in Colorado Springs-- tons to do, great restaurants, less traffic and marginally cheaper than Denver.

Good point, we don’t have any kids!

I'll toss in the Grand Valley as well. Lotta wineries and orchards in the Palisades area. Grand Mesa, Colorado National Monument, and the Dominguez-Escalante Natl, Conservation Area is good as well. Lots of Native American pictographs to be seen in the area.

the san juans are easily the most striking mountains in the state and a must see. a simple drive from durango to silverton and stopping on molas pass would be a great use of time.

the ark valley from salida to leadville is also very nice. very big, beautiful, high relief mountain front through there and a beautiful river. good food too.

the san luis valley is also hard to beat. the sand dunes and the sangre de cristos are something else.

it's hard to go wrong. the mountainous northern half very awesome too. the yampa valley and the flattops and are maybe less dramatic to look at, but their wildness is just felt when you're there. the rawahs, neversummers, and mummy range are awesome. once you're west of of the foothills it's good stuff everywhere you look tbh.

Another vote for the SW corner. There's a series of offroad trails around Telluride, Ouray, and Silverton that you can rent a jeep and have a good time with. I had a great time with these because it was the same environment as Rocky Mountain National Park, but shows some of the land management history of the west a little better imo

Engineer and Cinnamon pass are definitely worth the time and effort, and yes on the rental...
