I don't doubt he heard that, but there wasnt any discussion debate about that criteria in the meetings I watched or read about. He said their primary focus was to make folks pick a unit/unit cluster vs popping around all over the state which I had to wonder, how much does that actually happen?
I don’t view that change as a negative. I know a few guys that have drawn tags in 87 and they invite all their friends and drive around in convoys. Whether the goat numbers are up or down it will at the very least help with hunter crowding. Also, welcome to the forum.2nd season added for Pronghorn in 87 & 88 for hunter crowding lmaoooo gotta be the most overrated lope tag in the state ain’t nothin out on the Pawnee but flat dirt and spent shotgun shells from Lori and Jim bob out there blasting away all day they’ve killed the lope population giving out damn near 300 tags every year what they gonna split it 150 per season now? Sure that’ll help. Cpw blows
The DWG had nothing to do with limiting OTC archery. That was done in the BGSS process, and there was little to no discussion that I recall about how hunt codes would be developed. Since CPW manages by DAU, it only makes sense that they would issue licenses by DAU or portions of DAUs. If one of the goals was to reduce hunting pressure, there was no way they could issue OTC-wide licenses.I don't doubt he heard that, but there wasnt any discussion debate about that criteria in the meetings I watched or read about.
I'd say they most likely ended up as they are because using a model that is functionally the same as historic limited draw tag unit clusters is much easier to implement in Aspira and other related systems than creating entirely new "General" units. Especially ones that would have encompassed more than one DAU.
@Oak @Sandbrew - did the construction of unit clusters into larger groups come up at all in the DWG sessions?
