My son drew a 3rd season rifle tag in 57/58. Wondering if any value in picking up a bear tag or is it too late in the season? Thanks in advance!

The trophy potential is so amazing in unit 57 and unit 58
During the 3rd rifle season, bucks will come out of the woodwork to find does and can be seen rutting all day long. Some mature bucks will literally run in front of your truck if you play Morgan Wallen at volume level 6 or 7. They will still be on the BLM land to the east, north, west, and sometimes south of this unit. Hunters who put in the time and hunt hard will have a good chance to get a smoker buck here if they just lace up the boots and leave the road a couple hundred yards. This is one of Guy Eastman's top sleeper units for 2023.

Its actually an elk tag but thanks. :)

I normally hunt 3rd rifle but quite a bit farther north. My experience has been it's generally too cold and snowy for the bears to be out and about a whole lot. I'd check the weather forecast and if it's warmer than normal maybe pick up a bear tag on your way to your hunt. Good luck on your elk!

The trophy potential is on the comeback in unit 57 and unit 58 for those willing to hunt at night in these blue chip units.

During the 3rd rifle season, bulls will be found in dark timber and private property. Try corner crossing for best access. Mature bulls will be near haystacks or dark timber for those with e-bikes and extra batteries. Limited tag numbers ensures a quality hunt provided you're willing to put in the miles on the Silverado. Bulls will still be on the National Forest to the east, north, west, and sometimes south of this unit, usually during the full moon phase. Hunters who put in the time and hunt hard will have a good chance to get a Boone & Crockett bull here if they just lace up the boots and go deep. This is one of Guy Eastman's Huntin' Fool's top member's only boomer units for 2023.

Will a thermal and suppressor help during this hunt? Asking for a friend

Unit 57 and Unit 58 are among the first units in the state to champion the use of thermal and suppressors always help. #unit57
With so much unhunted public ground and so few hunters in the field, Unit 58 is one of the biggest sleeper units in the entire west that no one knows about.
