COLLEGE Football Is Almost Upon Us

...been out of propaganda coverage for a spell. Can someone tell me if Johnny Freakin Football is on track for the bronze stiffarm statue again?

Oh, and wyo556,...Big Game Bob eats bags of male genitalia.;)

That is funny. At least Mack got one more win before he is gone.

Funny how nobody respects Baylor. They are a scoring machine but haven't gone through the tough part of the schedule.

And Spook, so sorry for your hogs. That was nearly as bad as watching Baylor beat the snot out of ISU. It's one thing to lose, another to get beat, but to be demolished in every part of the game is just hard to watch.

Tom- Nice win for your Vols. Butch seems to be turning the program around.

Yeah, looks like we finally made right choice for coach after a couple of losers to get us back to where UT belongs in football! Get our butts kicked this weekend I fear.

Is FL ST for real? They seem to be the wild card in all our Nat Champs game discussion...

I am really surprised how well the Vols are doing. After the Oregon game I thought it would fall apart and they have bounced back nicely. Heck if the OT game against Georgia goes differently they would be 5-2. Will be interesting to see if they can beat Mizzou.

As far as FSU they sure looked like it on Saturday. I am not looking forward to OSU playing them in the kickoff classic next year.

I think FSU is for real, as long as their freshman QB keeps playing this well. Their team speed on D is scarey for any offense. I could see them and AL winning out and Oregon missing out on a Championship game again. This would be a super fun year for the 4 team playoff...

Oregon has two top ten teams on their schedule. Methinks they bump FS if they win out especially if FL stays out of the top 25.

jr- That could be the case, assuming those two teams are still in the top 10 when/if the Ducks beat them.

I think Miami over rated and doesn't have a real chance against FSU....hell, they barely beat FL and FL turned the ball over 5 or 6 times.
I would not bet the ranch that BAMA finishes undefeated! They got some hurdles. And everytime it looks like ORE is ready for big dance, they seem to trip. Don't see a real threat to trip FSU or Ohio St.......also don't think Ohio St should get a shot at Champs game but they will if they stay undefeated and BAMA and OR end up with a loss....I think the three best by heads and shoulders are Bama, OR and FSU in no particular order.

FSU beat Clemson who was way over rated apparently based on their victory over UGA in first game of season....Clemson beat no one of significant since. UGA had 14 freshman or redshirt freshmsn on their two deep, they turned the ball over at least twice, and lost by three at Clemson....how the hell did Clemson get ranked that high? Oh, yeah they beat an SEC team who will do well to finish tied for third in SEC-E.....glad we have so much influence on the polls! JEEZ!

Yee Haw ! We won the 4th quarter and tied the second half....

Ol Darth Visor pulled one out in last 11 minutes or so....and has Mizzou pizzed for our visit....he will even be rooting for us....

Baylor’s rapid football ascent may be best illustrated not by surreal offensive stats, but by the coldly unsentimental tool known as the Las Vegas betting line.
The sharpies in Vegas have proclaimed Baylor as a 14-point favorite over Oklahoma. The last time Bob Stoops faced this large a deficit was against eventual national champion Texas in 2005.
Yes, BCS No. 6 Baylor has come light years from the hopeless, helpless program that Art Briles inherited in 2008. Thursday’s showdown with No. 10 Oklahoma in front of a Fox Sports 1 national audience begins a defining month-long stretch of five games. Three of those opponents are ranked in the BCS standings. And Texas is the only other undefeated team in Big 12 play besides Baylor.
In that stretch, Baylor (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) can answer remaining questions about its schedule and overall worthiness to be ranked among the best teams in the country.
“We do feel like we’re hunted a little bit right now,” Briles told ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday, “but our goal and our job is still to be the hunter.
“We’ve played seven football games. It’s not like we’ve played nine or 10. So we don’t feel like we’ve arrived yet. We’ve gotten in the car, but we haven’t buckled up and started yet. We have a lot to do and a lot to prove.”
People will be watching. A school-record 450 media credentials have been issued for Thursday’s game, including five to bowl game executives and 12 NFL team scouts.
The infamous tarp that blanketed the south end zone seats and stood as a symbol of Baylor’s futility is gone, lifted for the final two games at Floyd Casey Stadium.
“We’re going tarpless,” Briles said.
Much of the buildup will focus on Baylor’s offense, which leads the Bowl Subdivision in total offense (718.4 yards per game), passing offense (417.3 ypg), scoring (63.9 points a game) and passing efficiency.
Only Kansas State has held Baylor under 59 points.
The Wildcats supposedly provided a blueprint for beating Baylor, rushing for 327 yards and possessing the ball for nearly 40 minutes in 35-25 loss. Since then, neither Iowa State nor Kansas has been able to follow the plan.
Of course, those teams don’t possess the talent of Oklahoma (7-1,4-1), although this is a good but probably not great Sooners team.
Asked what made Baylor’s offense unique, Stoops offered this assessment: “Speed, the way they spread you out, literally sideline to sideline. … They mix the run and pass with talented guys.”
One thing Oklahoma does possess is big-game experience. One reason a lot of players go to Norman is to play these types of games.
At Baylor, this represents uncharted territory for a generation. The last time Baylor and its opponent were each ranked in the top 10 was 1985, when No. 10 Arkansas edged eighth-ranked Baylor, 20-14.
Even when Robert Griffin III led Baylor to a landmark victory over No. 5 Oklahoma in 2011, the Bears were just 22nd in the Associated Press poll.
Even Briles is aware of what lies ahead and what his team has to do.
“It’s nice, expectations, but you have to bring it to reality,” Briles said.

Oregon is a 10 1/2 point favorite according to the Lost Wages betting line.

Wyo556, what do you make of the REAL, the ONE and Only UT pick for AD?

Not sure what to think about the whole deal. A week ago Oliver Luck was supposed to already have the job according to some reports. Apprantly he did not want to let Mack stick around another year so he could be come the winningest coach in tUT history. This guy from ASU who is also a UT law grad wanted to let Mack stay for another year and this made the board happy. Not sure if any of that is true but what is being said on the message boards. I havent' checked the shag to see what is really going on.

Lots of unhappy people in WV. Mad about the FB and BB team not performing well, mad about their AD wanting to leave, and mad about thier AD getting turned down for the job at tUT. Some people still think the tUT AD actually runs the Big 12 conference so they were sure that is was going to work out good for WVU.

I am surprised that Baylor is such a big favorite tomorrow night against OU. They are a good team but I am not sold that they are elite. If they beat OU, OSU, and tUT I will be a believer. I still they they lose at least one of those games. OSU and tUT are starting to play like they should with the level of talent they have. Briles is one heck of a coach and human being. He had a nice write up on ESPN this week about his life and losing his parents.

I thought BAMA/LSU was the big game especially for ORE, FL ST and Ohio ST fans.....

Meanwhile the real UT plays 7th game against ranked opponent....anyone top that?

Tom,

I think it is clear that the SEC has Bama and everyone beyond that can and has been beat, in most cases multiple times. Teams like Georgia, Florida, etc are not elite teams at this point. The fact that a couple of former mediocre Big 12 teams have some into the conference and done quite well also serves as proof that the conference is wide open aside from Bama.

It is impressive that the vols played Oregon, however it was not impressive to watch them get their brains beat out. With all the SEC OOC losses this year it is clear that they are not as dominant as they once were.

I'm hoping for an Oregon/FSU NC game. The QB matchup would be awesome.
