CO turkey opener 2025

I called in another Rampart Range bird (a Jake this time, but we are not very picky in the Ramparts) for my SIL yesterday. We were about 20 yards apart uphill from the decoy against separate trees. Agreement and general physical conditions (trees in the way) were that if the bird came to the right of the decoy it was his shot and left was mine. Bird came from the right.

Fried turkey tenders tonight, and another liver for the annual Pate batch in the freezer!

Are they gobbling pretty good there? I didn't hear a single one west of the divide

I was down by rampart range yesterday. Some areas there are way too crowded for my comfort!
Congrats on the opening day bird
Yeah - it’s a zoo in there - but it will calm down a bit after opening weekend.

Oddly enough - there was a hunter on the other side of the adjacent finger ridge to us that missed a longbeard not too long before we called this guy in.

Odd mostly because it’s a rough go getting to this spot and I’ve rarely if ever seen other folks there.

We talked to him for a while after he heard our shot and hiked over. Turns out he had met the landowner that owns the private across the creek from this spot and was able to park at his place which cut about 2.9 miles and a couple thousand feet of elevation gain and loss compared to our hike :)

They were fired up from fly down until ~9:00. There is lots of green-up and virtually no snow left except random patches in deep north facing draws on the higher pieces. Probably a couple weeks ahead of the west side. Bounced a couple elk out of a little bowl we call ‘Narnia’ right after dawn mowing down grass.
